Hymee I love the intercooler options and the whole supercharger idea you've been working on. Just a few questions now.

1) Do you have any sort of timeframe breakdown on when we'll start getting close to production or anything.

2) Will you have a "clutched" option for your supercharger. As in other cars I have seen there is a toggle for having the supercharger completly off and then if you want to have the extra power you can just flip a switch and have the supercharger basically "turn-on".

I personally love that option and it would definately keep me out of a lot of trouble and tickets.

Why turn it off?

If it boosts the torque at low end, its actually nicer to have it on if you are just crusing in traffic etc.........

We don't plan to clutch it in/out like an AC compressor.

There is a bypass valve that effectively allows the supercharger to freewheel, not pumping any boost into the engine. It is still spinning with the engine, so it is ready to release its boost into the engine when the throttle is opened. This valve is controlled by manifold pressure/vacuum. In this case, the throttle acts as the switch. This bypass valve arrangement is recommended by the blower manufacturer. In fact, we are using their bypass valve.

I do know that some installations have the supercharger enganged via an electromagnetic clutch. My main worry about this, especially on a "small capacity" engine that is low on torque anyway, is the inertia hit taken when the clutch engages, and the blower rotors need to spin up to speed.

From my experience with what we have done to date, the bypass valve works well. Squeeze the throttle, the boost comes on. You feel it, you hear it, and if you look at the boost gauge, you can see it. :D

Cheers,
Hymee.

I beleive that this SC can be "switched on" via application of the throttle. My understanding is that if you are only part throttle you won't be on boost. but lets just say you stomp on the pedal then you'll go 100% boost but of you go only 75% throttle then you may only go 50% boost. I think there is an actuator which is controlled via throttle postion.
Apparently the twin screw are very easy to turn so when not on boost, they'll virtually rob no power from your engine.

Hymee will correct me if I'm wrong.
EDIT: bugger he beat me too it :p

You can blame all this switch it on/off stuff on that movie made with one of your countrymen, made down there and a damn switch for a 8-71. Now there's a fantasy, to clutch one of those you'd need a triple disc.

Who am I to talk, that man now has more money then your government.

It would be like Mad Max when they buried him inside his blown car. He started the car then flipped the switch to get the blower going, right? Then he jumped out of the pit. Maybe is was Max, maybe not. I really can't remember that movie I saw it in.

Interesting fact. Mel Gibson was born in New York. So was his father. His mother was born in Australia though, so he's half Aussie =)

Interesting question. You might need to modify it somewhat. We are trying to retain as much of the standard cold air intake as possible.

At the end of the day, the filtered air just needs to be plumbed into the blower intake (which has the throttle body attached).

But of course it all needs to be genuine Hymee

Cheers,
Hymee.

The Bypass Valve can also be piloted by a solenoid valve that's controlled by the auxiliary engine management system (Motec or other), Turbo Waste Gate - style. It means that you can specify which boost you want to run at every operating point (RPM, TPS).

Some new parts take shape

Now we have got past the initial prototype stage, we are gearing up to fit this to the first customer's car.
Part of that is the evolution of the parts, as R&D is on-going
Here are some pics from some CNC work done the other day...

New discharge adaptor. 1st couple of machining operations.

The CNC shop. They do some lovely work!

Another operation done.

Getting ready for another.

CAD Drawing for the next operation.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hymee has never mentioned a figure. All figures are speculation at this stage. Hymee won't be in a position to speculate on cost until the project is finalised and he's had a chance to buy Mrs Hymee a shitload of roses so she'll allow him to stay up late building S/C kits..... .

Yes indeed... my post was meant to read "EVEN if it was....."
sorry .. my bad..
If roses are what's needed to help the twins along...
Then what address should I get "Flowers R Us" to send the roses :D :D :D
