I guess the point I was trying to make is to see how easy it is for people to get all excited about a number.

Wait...that is an actual 454 lb/ft of torque on the Renesis? :shocking:

Hmm the further this progresses the more I am glad that my ex broke up with me...so that way I could save for this rather than saving for an engagement ring.....Thanks Hymee

If the motor was actually putting out 454 lbft then the tranny and rear would have went by now. If you read what he wrote it is pretty clear that it isnt the acutal number the motor is putting out. That test was probably done in 2nd gear where you have the gears multiplying the torque of the motor.

so do you then divide it by the gear ratio for second gear?

BoosTED 11-08-2005 03:23 PM

What are the limitations of the stock drivetrain?

yes multiply 2nd by the final and use that to find the engine T

I'm not sure the math on those calcs is correct. Get that sorted, then I'll tell you what gear it was in ;)

seems to me:

wheel torque = flywheel torque * gear ratio * final drive * efficiency of drivetrain. but I can't get the numbers to work.

That looks like a better formulae.

But we can "formulate" all we like. The number I showed is the real number ;)

How about we just look at a comparison between a stock RX-8 power curve, and the power curve the S/C has produced at this stage of its development:

https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...id=62769&stc=1

The red line is the stock RX-8 test. The white/blue/yellow lines are twin-screw S/C RX-8 tests. Sorry for the quality, it is a screen capture of a short video I am working on at the moment.

Cheers,
Hymee.

^ sweet now I'm even more depressed that I don't have a supercharger :(

therm8 11-08-2005 06:44 PM

quality aside, that's a nice picture. Looks to be ~30% gain up top, with ~90-100% down low (just counting vertical divisions) :yesnod:

I can't wet myself anymore

staticlag 11-08-2005 07:01 PM

Hmm, the SC looks to make between 225-240hp to the wheels

Hymee 11-08-2005 07:07 PM

Here is the video. I meant to remake this video with the clip of the ramp test going for longer, but I lost my movie editing compilation/document due to a power failure last night :( The power failure also affected my "personal supercharger" during my sleep.

What I would really like to do is to gather the various "graphs" from around the places, that are plotted with the stock graph, and normalize them all against the stock graphs. This was the actual "number" wouldn't matter, as we all know how much this varies between dyno-dyno, and day to day, and from one location to another.

I won't make a secret out of the fact that we need to do some work "up top". We know that. I hope people can appreciate that and not flame us for it. Working on a project like this you get an appreciation for what goes into this sort of development. There are lots and lots of things that go into it. So many variables. I guess at the end of the day, you guys can benefit from the hard work and lessons learnt along the way.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Racer X-8 11-08-2005 07:32 PM

Yeah, therm8's formula looks right. The final drive and the tranny gear ratios both reduce rpm's and increase torque at the wheel. And then, the driveline losses. The wheel torque divided by 4.444 final drive ratio and divided again by tranny gear raito would be flywheel torque less driveline losses. But, 454 lb-ft wheel torque makes for real low flywheel torque, nomatter what gear it was in, so, let's just set that one aside for now, shall we?

Man, the improved area under the power curve is huge! Sweet!
