I didn't get one either.
Add to that, I nor Hymee want to give numbers that we are not sure we can keep.
If you consider how long we have been at it you might get an idea of how much commitment in time and lots of money. I know I'd like to be on the market as soon as i can. No amount of bugging is going to speed it up.
I'm not trying to speak for Hymee but he can't possably think any other way.

If I know that then you should. Hymee is probably more polite then I am so that's why I posted on his thread.

Hmmm...

Hymee emails get immediatley forwarded to pda, and always have. I'll have a check of that. Of course, humble appologies if I find any that have not been replied to.

The PDA website has the correct details in contacts.

Come on Hymee I need a finished product. All I'm missing now is FI.

BTW It's looking good. Thx for all the hard work you've put into this!

Hi all,

Time for some updates, with pics :)

Late in the game when installing the S/C on Wildcards car, I realized some of the components might be a little undersized, as they were originally designed for the smaller blower. So my bad. The outlet pipe diameter on the discharge side of the blower was consierably smaller than recommended for the larger blower we were trying.

We feel this may be contributing to a lack of top end power, although the combo on Wildcards car was still considerably above stock - just not what I was intending. And don't ask me what the target is, RAP already gave some reasons why we don't.

https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...id=70663&stc=1

The existing billet discharge adaptor has an outlet diameter of 57mm choking the compressor. The new one will be about 3 inches. In terms of cross-sectional area, that is about 65% more flow potential. And power is proportional to flow.

https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...id=70664&stc=1

One step at a time, but this is a start.

I'm going to try out a Carbon Fibre (or similar composite) discharge adaptor this time. It should look sexy :) and be lighter weight as well. Some of the increased flow area will be due to the reduced wall thickness we can use.

The pics are of a mockup I started to make, so we could make a mould from it for the carbon fibre part. I started out with some with some PVC bends and some epoxy resin. Bit like playing with plasticine, but it goes off quicker. Lots of fun. Lots of sanding as well. Not as fun.

I probably didn't mention it before, but the intake ducting shown on Wildcard's car... well we always intended to do that in carbon fibre when we finalised the shape/design. Wildcard's pics show an intake duct fabricated out of aluminum and a flexible elbow.

Anyway - onwards and upwards. Hooray for R&D.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Bugger - editing is now restricted to 2 minutes :o Oh well, one way to increase post count.

Thanks! :) The Carbon Fibre should look nice too.

well, i wasn't joking...i did go to the website and emailed the sales and also the info departments. It is possible that i was emailing the wrong people, anything is possible. I wasn't trying to hurry anyone up, i was just curious because i would love to supercharge the 8 this summer if all goes well.

thanks for the info hymee...i appreciate it

This summer?

Do you have the room to do this to the discharge adaptor? I dunno, but the right side looks just a bit restricted to me. Just a real quick sketch to get my thought across... You think this new shape would flow a little better?

Richard Paul 02-22-2006 01:16 PM

That will help the choke point but why the dog leg? Just make the long side wall a decreasing radius. :scratchhe

Racer X-8 02-22-2006 02:09 PM

Yeah, I coulda gone that way, I just was into straight lines and blend radii at the time. Maybe a slightly stronger subliminally attempted departure from the familliar PVC pipe elbow look? lol

Hymee 02-22-2006 03:43 PM

I hope the date stamps on the photo's show I started the latest pattern before you posted that!

I started making a new one yesterday! Similar to what you have "designed" for me :)

I'll post a few pics later. This time I started out with a 3" mandrel bent tube, and a flate plate of aluminum. The right hand side starts out verticle, then radiused around to blend into the relatively long radius mandrel bend tube. Well, a longer radius than the PVC elbow.

Pics to come when I have developed them.

Cheers,
Hymee

Racer X-8 02-22-2006 04:44 PM

LOL, what do they say about great minds? Glad we're all in agreement! Carry on Hymee, as my cohort here would say, "handle it, handle it"... HAHA!

Not finished yet, but getting close. I want to radius the truncation a bit (lot?) more before I am happy.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hymee 02-22-2006 06:58 PM

assuming the above assumption?
Nice caveat!! Hehehe.

The longer the radius the better, but...
  • Space is an issue.
  • We are not bolting up to a circle on the blower.
  • This part is more like a small plenum that fits over the dicharge of the blower, and has a circular outlet to downstream pipework/hoses etc.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I thought someone might be more worried about the altered weight distribution when shifting to a C/F part.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I'm going to get a mould taken from this, and get one made to start with for testing.

The video clips do not seem to work for me. Have they been moved?

rotarenvy 02-23-2006 03:29 PM

wouldn't it be better to make the prototype from metal and do the testing?
if this design dosn't work the mold would be useless.

All's well that ends well. That being, as long as it generally flows in the downhill direction. Getting it to flow uphill is a nightmarish challenge! :cwm27: And, the direction of the swirl depends on which vantage point you're viewing it from. :Freak_ani :rollingla

Good job there Hymee!
