Hymee gets Supercharged (Part 2)
#1639
Hi guys, I had the pleasure this evening to inspect and drive Hymee's first production supercharger kit on his own RX-8.
As you would have seen in the photos that Hymee has posted over the past few weeks, the level of engineering and the attention to detail is a cut above what we traditionally see with aftermarket forced induction kits (not just those for RX-8's). The kit quality and comprehensiveness achieved by Hymee is an absolute credit to him and to those who have been involved through the research and development stages and now with the first production run.
So I guess you're all wanting to know how it went?! Put it this way, I wish I hadn't driven it....because I want my kit now!!! It performed exactly as I expected....urgent but still as silky smooth right from idle through to redline. The screw-type compressor delivers a substantial increase in torque through-out the rev range to replicate the torque curve of a naturally aspirated engine that has a much larger displacement. Someone unfamiliar with the RX-8 would be hard pressed to immediately realise that the engine had forced induction. Unlike the hoarse whine produced by the Eaton M45 supercharger on my NA8 MX-5 (Miata), this unit is quieter and far more refined (efficient), which suits the RX-8 to a tee. I would've loved to have put a few more kilometers on the car and put the supercharger kit through its paces, but home was calling.
Here are some photos of the installation on Hymee's RX-8.
Regards,
Danny

Absolutely beautiful work Mark....It looks better than 90% of OEM systems I've seen.
I can't wait to start the install. The engineer in me can truly appreciate the time and effort you've put into this. Those 3D CNC billet aluminum intakes on the compressor and engine intake are just awesome. There's going to be 10 really happy RX-8 drivers out there in a couple of months.
Danny, thx for the pictures....
Once the systems cross the pond, those of us in the US/Canada will get the washer bottle back on the 'right' side.
