i'm doing a renesis --> fc swap :D

my bud is selling me his t2 that has been collecting dust since he got his g35 dirt cheap (excuse the pun). and i've got that complete renesis motor from head to toe with an interceptor and that modified greedy kit too. so i dropped off the turbo for more mods and the turbo guy clipped the turbine.

i think this fc should do about ~300-320 whp, last a long time since i'm doing some meth injection to compensate for my lack of octane, and should actually get really good gas milage. the exhaust port helps spool the turbo and increases fuel economy, the fc drops about 400 lbs over the rx8's weight, and i'm using a t2 tranny with 4.1 lsd. this means @80mph, i'll be about 1000 rpm less than an rx8, and i'll have way less weight to lug around.

dare i say.....300whp/30mpg potential? won't know for sure 'till i'm done, but that would be nice. pics as soon as i get my parts from everyone.

Very cool. This is going to be a drive by wire setup, since you're using the Interceptor?

You haven't ported on it have you? I"m trying to make new exhaust sleeves and it is important that they haven't been touched.

Just tell me where to send the money for shipping and you'll have it.

na, it's still bone stock...just dusty. lemme dig it up and find a box. i haven't seen it since i moved so it's either in its own box somewhere, or hiding amongst all the other side housings. i'll hunt it down though.

back to the pj-- i'm really anxious to see what the fuel economy potential of the renesis is with proper gearing and a lighter weight car. 30 might be a bit of a stretch, but i'll bet an easy 25-26 can be achieved without even trying too hard.

sounds like a cool project! i'm doing a 12a PP in a 1st gen, but the renisis swap actually makes more sense, similar power, 3x the $$

My long term goals are to throw a Renesis into my 1st gen. I have no idea when that will happen though. I have no doubt that with the weight of the car combined with a 4.10 rear end, it could get 20 mpg city all day every day. I don't think 30 mpg on long highway trips would be unreasonable. It could be done. The single biggest factor is the gearing. Even the RX-8 could potentially hit 30 mpg on long highway trips with a rear end gear change.

i agree. the gearing will help the economy on the freeway, the weight reduction is great for city economy. but everything helps everything to an extent.

i'll pick up the car in a week or two, then the motor whenever richard is done borrowing it, and we're off. it'll bolt to the tranny, then mounts will be a piece of cake. custom exhaust thanks to my lincoln 110 mig, then see if i can get the factory ecu to work so i can run it n/a for a bit while i go see the ref and make it legal. after that will come the turbo, ems, and powa

i'm in el monte now. you can swing by whenever to see the operation, but it's pretty slow lately. new business license and all that crap, so we're trying to keep the shop as clean as humanly possible for the inspections.

Did you mean White Castle?

Anyway, I'm actually going to San Diego on Thursday, and I usually visit LA once or twice, I'm gonna have to meet up with you.

Dave, I've got something that could help out your ecu issues with the Renesis in the FC. I have a 36-1 trigger wheel that was designed for the Renesis. It bolts right on and uses the factory pickup. The Haltech can read this. I know you have plenty of experience with those and the FC wouldn't demand that you use a factory RX-8 ecu. Just pick up a 75mm cable style throttle body somewhere and adapt it and you are set. I was going to sell it but I'd gladly do a straight swap for the old center plate shipping and all. It would be benficial to both of us. What do you think?

great idea if i were using a halteech, but i've got an interceptor and the stocker already. but i might pick up that wheel anyway for when i do a turbo 4-port.

I like Newcastle though it's not in my common arsenal.
