I switched from Citizens (here in Michigan) to Progressive. My agent was pissed. She claims that they checked all the insurance companies and Citizens was always working out to offer the best deal for the same coverage (and I had been using this organization since 1991 when I moved to the state from Ohio). I increased some of our coverages with Progressive, and it still dropped by enough that when I bought my RX-8, adding it to our policy (which includes a 2005 Honda Odyssey EX w/ Leather and a 2005 Mazda3s) resulted in the same 6 month rate that we were paying for just the two vehicles under Citizens! Clearly I was getting raped by my "independent" agent, who was supposed to be working on my behalf, not Citizens.
We recently had a chance to file a claim with Progressive (I was always happy with Citizens in this regard) when someone smashed into our Odyssey on the side of the road on the expressway. My wife and I were both very happy with the way Progressive handled the case.
On a bad note, I just had the 6 month renewal for Progressive a little while ago, and our rates when up by about $25/month. Not too happy about that. Nothing changed on our record (no new tickets, etc.), other than that claim, which was covered by the other guy's insurance. Still, no reason to change for a while. I've been told that you should shop around for new insurance every 1 to 2 years because insurance companies will often not lower your rates, or even increase them, after they give you a cheap rate initially to win you over. Of course, this price shopping service is what our agent was *supposed* to be doing for me. Bitch.

If you guys can get me a copy of your policy books, it would be great...
I'll have my GF read them over to make sure the underwriters didn't actually screw you over. (She's an auto insurance claims adjuster). I mainly ask because I've been looking for a deal like that to make sure I don't get screwed if i lost my car for any reason. I want to be able to replace everything.

If you can give me a modest list of what your looking to have covered, and the prices of each item. My dad is a Insurance Sales Agent with over 50 insurance companies that he sells for.
I've been learning the system and I could see what kind of companies there are out there that would cover the material you are looking to have covered.
I think Hagardy might cover some of your modifications as they insuranced a 1967 GTO with a numbers matching hemi that i wouldn't give over $5,000 for, for $165,000 and then up'd the coverage when he was restoring it.
Just so you have an idea, I have AAA with road side assistance. Own a 2004 RX-8 GT with about 3,000 in add-ons, we quoted the vehicle as a 4 door under my dad's name. My pay on the vehicle every 2 and 1\2 months is $96 if i remember correctly.
That is full coverage with a $500 dectuctible.
If i had it under my name, it would be over $1,156 every six months.

USAA FTW
They quoted me at no joke, 40% of what I was at under progressive. Plus since I got my car loan thorugh them the rate is even cheeper. Added my MX-3 and FC RX-7 and put them under storage and temporary insureance, and the discount for multiple cars was more than the insurace for them so USAA actually paid me to insure 2 extra cars.
USAA doesnt have a whole lot of paper work for you to fill out but they are awsome at handleing you on the phone. Ive never been on hold and they always take care of you. Last week they called me to say there was an error on my last policy with one of the rates so they reimbursed me 500 bucks.
Just call them and ask about mods. I got to belive they will cover most.

well, all i need is the policy documentation so we can run it by an underwriter and verify that you're actually getting what you pay for. Example, my GF had an insured that paied for 10,000 in coverage, but because of the way the policy was written, he still only got market value for the vehicle when it was totaled... so he was paying against 10,000, but only got 1,000~2,000. You have to be careful about what the agent promises.
Anyone have a copy of their policy that they could scan in for me to review?
GerryE,
I'm not worried about the cost. I have a 500 deductible with 100k in damages etc. for less than 100 too. That wont be the case once I mod it to hell and back... lol.

another +1 for USAA. fantastic cust. service. and no exageration at all - 6 other companies i checked were all a MINIMUM of twice as expensive for a 24yo(at the time) male. FWIW Geico was over 3X's more expensive...
