ITB'S Can it be done?

[QUOTE=Benjamz;2401144]im going to retain the single tb, because its a good size, i want to retain the features of the stock set-up because it works, im just going to modify it a bit
If there already is individual intake runners wouldent a throttle body at the end of each one (sized appropriately) qualify as ITBs
simple not easy

this is deffinitly a long term project, the stock system is basically perfect for n/a, but could be changed a bit for turbo app. its way easier to design a turbo kit for this car then to modify the stock intake system...lol
but yeah, the idea is to use the stock tb for the 2 center intake runners. it will still be fly by wire except im going to replace the rod that the butterfly sits on with an extended shaft that will have a connection for the linkage going to the 2 outer tb's. looking at 3 total. it will be ment for 4k rpm and 5k rpm and above so its really only meant for track or if you like to race every where you go.
but the stock system is the best.... just add a drop in high flow filter and some nice exhaust and your pretty much done. next would be flashing the ecu.

throttle response will be the same because of the electronic throttle body, that slight delay. no pics for a while... im going to make intake/header/midpipe/exhaust/front and rear strut tower bars before i actually start making my upper intake manifold mod.
the goal is to get more of a kick when it opens and not loose power, but it is more of a set-up for turbo app.
looks like ill be making stuff starting august.
with a normal job and school, its hard to do this..lol

I think you'd have to put the auxilaries and secondaries on a delayed linkage so they only open up past about half travel, and then you'd have to open the throttle progressively at low rpm to keep the torque, like an old two stage carb.
Unless you set a linkage in there that disables them below a certain rpm from an ECU output, then ramps them in gradually to full manual control.

like everyone said, the upper intake from mazda is perfect for na, im really doing this to improve the turbo set-up... itll be a bonus if it works for n/a... but turbo is what im going to use it for.... still thinking about modifying the LIM so the aux ports are always open. the whole set-up will be an easier pathway to work with for turbo.
id like to use a small turbo for up to 4K/5k rpm and a BIG turbo from 4k/5k up, or i'd like to modify the 3rd gen twins to work on the 8 which I would prefer for spirted driving.
but ill buy a greddy turbo kit and make the modded UIM and see if it really helps or just makes the car run like crap....lol
hopefully i can get started on this early next year.

We've kept all the intake back to, but not including, the throttle body.
I couldn't see the point in loosing so much midrange for a few bhp peak, so we won't do it until we've got a variable length trumpet system with enough range.

When I took over Rotary Extreme, I thought I would have time to play with this. But I got caught up in making stuff for the RX7's. Sales are doing well and I needed to re-make a few things. When the business closed for 2 years, the fabricator recycled the samples, ouch. So alot of my time has been spent re-making the stuff.
As for the RX8. I still would like to apply the Nissan Pulsar GTI-R concept of ITBs with the MAF. I also would like to say I would only be concerned with HP between the RPM range of 6k to 9k. I would be making this only for a track/race application which I will be using my car for.
But I am working on an S/C kit of my own right now. Maybe I might be able to add the ITB's in my set-up if I have enough time to play around with some design ideas.
