Your log shows afrs are pegged rich, my recommendation is to confirm you don't have any boost leaks first. Being that Jeff is tuning your car did he have any input?

Good luck man hope it gets resolved soon

Your blow off valve is HKS VTA right ?
I can see the AFRs fluctuating wildly as it starts to stutter . Maybe the BOV is bleeding off air for some reason . Suggest you try removing BOV altogether and blocking the hole and see if it still happens .
Gregs has a neat trick for that - involves cutting up a coke can

Please elaborate more on this coke can trick!! Maybe you could shoot me a PM when you have a spare minute Gregs?

Hmmm, a leak at the BOV would make some sense to me... I remember before I started my retune hearing my BOV vent while I was WOT once during the stuttering, it didnt ever happen again after retuning but maybe now that I am closer to pinpointing a problem; aka boost leak; I can try to pay more attention to this. I will have to look it all over, one of my lines or the actual flange could be loose, the charge pipe with my BOV on it was removed from the car and sitting in my garage for some time while I was wainting for my BHR system to come and who knows what my pesky roommates may have put their greasy paws on.

No Jeff didnt mention anyting about a boost leak but I am on map 4.01 only and logging data between 4.00(FI base map) to 4.01 entails logging at idle and at constant rpm on the highway, nothing in boost so he would not have seen a log wih this issue.

I will do some more investigating in the days to come and keep you guys posted.... Normally I would have more time to diagnose this on my own but I am currently working far away from home on a project and spare time has been quite limited, so thanks for the input!!

!!
All you are trying to do is seal up the hole going to the BOV . Just cut the can to the shape of the flange and bolt the BOV back down on top of it . Also block the tube going to the manifold to rule that out as well.

hmmm, Im not sure if this is going to work with the C-clip type of flange for the HKS BOV?? I'll have to look more closely once I get it apart dont remember exactly what the flange looks like without the BOV mounted; obviously I'm gonna want to let off the throttle gradually with it blocked off so as not to induce any surge.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, i completely missed your question. My issue was simply that my spark plugs weren't tightened properly, and became loose over time. Sound stupid, but I learned my lesson quickly after that fiasco.

Edit: looks like you are running rich, whereas in my case i was running very lean at the upper RPM band

Not sure about the HKS flange - Gregs has the same BOV and he suggested it so .......................

Don't worry about the surge - one or two times isn't going to hurt your turbo . Remember , the stock Greddy kit didn't even have a BOV !

Okay, I took a quick look at my BOV last night and the hose from UIM to BOV looked fine and my flange on C6 charge pipe seemed to be mounted well. I'll have to give this a try along with removing my C6 charge pipe and remounting to make sure the couplers are sealing properly.

At this point can we pretty much rule out faulty or improperly installed ignition? did that loose T1 Coil look like a non-issue according the logs?

Alright boys, got my second tuning session in with Jeff and Lo and behold, car is running just fine again.... There was no boost leak it was running that rich from my tune. No problems hitting redline at WOT and was metering 307g/s tonight. Not bad just gotta get a few more sessions in with Jeff and should be running stronger than ever!

How lean does Jeff normally tune to with the AFR's ?

I asked because I have a v.5 tune with Jeff that leans to about 12.6 in some spots but my other tuner Kane said that his tune was way too dangerous.

The MM tune definately feels quicker... but I know my tune is alot safer.

did you address those lean areas with Jeff? what rpm does those lean areas occur and what is the load? any logs of this? I'm not a fan of running over 12s with a boosted application.

Yeah 12.6 under boost is not something I would be comfortable with.

Highest I've hit now on v4.4 is 11.7..... I believe a safe optimal target is around that 11.4 area

That tune from MM was on my previous engine and build.... maybe a contributing factor to why it blew

I went with Kane for tuning the second go round, AFRs nice and fat the whole way to redline. --11.0ish

Well you were beating on it before your tune was finished if I recall, so don't blame MM.

Hey everyone,

I have decided to put my baby up for sale. Between work, new house, and no time I have put only about 5000kms on the car in the last two years and I feel it could go to someone who will actually use it for more than a garage decoration.

Please see this link for more details: https://www.rx8club.com/canada-sale-...bo-rx8-253198/

Thanks for all your guys' help over the years its been an amazing ride!! If you know of anyone looking please point them in my direction!

***** F*ck this **** I am keeping the car *****

Thanks!

So now that you're keeping the yellow beast, how about an update on current setup. What psi, whp, etc. are you running?

BTW, thanks for taking the time to post this build thread. Was helpful for my build (which I'll post some time soon).

You're right!! I am actually planning on updating this post once I install some parts I have lying around in my garage.

Will be installing Koni Yellows, EBC slotted rotors and green stuff brake pads. I have a MS front bumper that I need to get painted and I have some sideskirts potentially lined up (all authentic). I recently just installed an RX8Performance intake and Greddy Profec B Spec II and have bumped my boost from 6psi up to 9psi. The car pulls even more like a beast now!! In saying that I have encountered a lean issue where my fuel has about a 1 second delay in getting to the engine after I floor the pedal (started a new thread for this issue). I am currently in the process of diagnosing this issue but I believe it to be related to fuel pressure or an electrical issue but time will tell! I have been working closely with Brettus on the issue who did the latest re-tune on my car after installing the above said parts. I will keep this thread updated once I get to the bottom of it!

Some updates!

New MS bumper.... Working on getting some sides here, kind of got screwed around by Amazon and unfortunately they are unable to supply me with the them so I think I'll be looking for a set of used ones over the winter. I have since installed clear corners too but I don't have any pics on hand.

Also installed new intake, catch can, and EBC. Currently I am having some issues at WOT and a lean spot. Issues documented in this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-maj...ry-lag-258983/

Don't mind the dirty engine bay!!

GReddy Profec B-Spec II mounted in ashtray. Did this using fibreglass but I think I am going to try it over again with a new ashtray and some Apoxie Sculpt. The finish on it is just black plastidip which ends up matching the interior better than I initially thought it would.
