Yeah, weather does definitely seem to have some pretty severe changes. With the huge drop in temperature here of late my car has been running stupidly rich. Pops and backfires are up, and if I jump on the throttle it just throws up on itself. I actually just re-flashed my tune today to see if it has an effect and turned down the meth injection again.

I dunno, my car is also a spiteful bitch so it could just be the fact she hates me.

yeah weather still makes my car run rich, my car runs too lean in 70 degree weather but when its cold its nice and rich in the low 11's which makes me much more comfortable about going into boost

and nice zum, you are going to do the BNR upgrade from the start? are you buying the kit used?

Thanks Konig/ G Gray,

Most likely Im going to see how it runs without and if its good enough Ill run with it, then after so many 10K-miles do the upgrade. I have to start hunting down all the small parts now...clamps, oil pan, etc....Hope by SOCAL dyno day

jeff your pm box is full =[ so im hoping youll stop by my thread and see this because id really appreciate your input =]

me and gregs spent some time trying to figure out what the problem was and id like your input on what we found.

Fuel Pressure: You suggested i might be having problems with low fuel pressure, so we tested the fuel pressure under partial load and WOT load at low and high rpms and it stayed constant at 65psi. that is normal right? so we can rule that factor out...

Exhaust Manifold: We looked underneath the car and noticed a small hairline crack on the manifold near the flange (near rotor number 2 i believe).

There is NO carbon deposits around the crack at all and from just listening by ear there was NO leak audible. However, when we got a hose and put one end to our ear and the other to the hairline crack, we could hear a slight ticking sound that may be a leak. Without the hose though we could not hear anything. Could a possible leak that small be causing the problems?

Also Could the crack opening and closing due to heat be related to my AFR's changing when the weather gets hot and cold? When its hot out (over 70 degrees), my AFRs are around 11.5-12, but when its cold my AFRs consistently stay around 11.2-11.5, or is this another issue altogether?

Thanks jeff, id really appreciate your input!

not jeff but i'll try to help .
your change in AFRs could be related to fuel trims - check your LTFT in both situations.
Also it could also be a simple case of getting more airflow when cold and thus higher load therefore lower AFR .

/\ only way to correct it is to rescale your maf ....

OR - If this has happened over time there is a possibility that a vacuum leak has developed between the maf and the turbo ....

okay so this weekend greg and i did quite a bit of work on my 8

-got a complete oil change
-fixed an oil leak on the oil pan, got it resealed with silicone and sealed up nicely
-fixed slight oil leak on the oil filter adapter which included removal of intake manifold (replaced intake manifold gaskets as well)
-swapped out my MAF sensor for one that greg had.

everything came out fine, no more oil leaks. but now there is a big big change in the way the car acts.

car is now running SUPER rich. as soon as i even get near boost the AFRs peg at 11.2 on the cobb and the car bogs heaavvillyy and stumbles. im guessing the AFRs are much much lower than 11.2 in reality and the car is choking on fuel.

are MAF sensors that different from car to car? or is it possible that my old MAF sensor was not working correctly?

greg if you think i forgot to add anything or have any ideas feel free to add on to my post!

only reason we switched maf sensors was to see if there would be a change in afr's in upper rpm..(konig was previously going lean at upper rpm)

oh and the LTFT's were -10 for a while (mostly driving around the street) and then on the freeway today they stayed at +6. STFT's were almost always in the negatives.

before i switched the MAF sensor LTFT's were +8, never negative.

It's hard to diagnose stuff like this .

The LTFTs are the ECUs attempt at stabilising AFR which can go out of spec for lots of reasons - changing the maf could be one of these .
There are 3 LTFTs - idle ,just off idle and cruise/open loop . You could be reporting any one of those so it can get confusing if you didn't realise this .

Also:
If you disconnected the battery then LTFTs are zeroed till the ECU goes through a couple of cycles.

I am not sure. The MAF/ Fuel Trims ordeal as me baffled at this point. For a while I've been having a problem of my ECU trims not reseting, and now its not settling (ltft always zero).

Only thing I could think of aside from the MAF itself, is removal of the UIM and new gaskets got rid of any vacuum leak u may have possibly had before. Maybe throw the old MAF back on to rule it out.
