Looking for expertise!

Okay, fairly new on here as you will tell by this post. I am considering the FI route but I am hoping to get an opinion of people that have gone with basic FI set-ups, I.E 250-300whp. I am just curious if the 8 feels like it has that power. Does it pull as hard as you would expect with that amount(up to 50%) of increase. Does everyone feel like it was worth the investment?

Also has anyone built any noticible power NA? I know I have seen a "power package" promising around 30 whp. Thanks guys

I drove a Greddy Turbo a few weeks ago with 7 Lbs of boost. Yep it's faster especially at 5000 RPM. Not a whole lot faster, certainly not worth the extra $7000 it ended up costing the owner.

The kit cost about $5000 by the time he got done with little extras and tax. He had it installed and tuned for another $2000. I think he added a bigger cat to it but thats only about $400.

Plumbing is pretty clean and the install was done with extra care. It little extra fab work was done to clean up.

The other thing is above 7500 RPM is a waste of gas.

Just a warning that someone one here will flame you for not searching but welcome to the forum. However, from others experiences that the have shared here it that will be quite a difference. I dont know about 7k, it can be done for less then that. Hit up the search function and look for Greddy Turbo and other things like that and u will get tons of info. Read up and make the make a decision from there.

I just pulled the Greddy kit off my car, after I blew the engine. In looking back, while it was fun, it was not worth the money & headaches associated with this kit. If I had to do it again I probably would have done the NA stuff, and if I needed more just FI'ed it using a nice Zex wet nitrous kit with a 55 shot. Charles R. Hill had it right. Now his direct port setup looks like a monster.

By now you're probably getting a better idea of what to expect, especially if you've done some research.

The bottom line is pretty simple. Mazda didn't leave a lot on the table for the Renesis package. It is what it is. The RX8 is truely a superb chassis, in part due to the balance that a lightweight motor like the Renesis made possible. Unfortunately for the class of vehicle it's underpowered. Thats probably the major reason they don't sell as many as you would expect.

No doubt a turbo or supercharger could be done for under 7 grand. I've always been a firm believer in "you get what you pay for".

I really like the Renesis. Sure it wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if it had 300 WHP as long as I could get 100,000 miles out of it.

For that matter I really like the 2.3 Turbo 4 in the CX7. I believe that motor will last 100,000 miles, at least I hope it does. If Mazda built a "CX8" (RX8 chassis with the Turbo 4) I probably would have bought that instead of the RX8. In fact if they offered both packages, I bet the "CX8" would probably outsell the 350Z.

If I needed more power from the RX8 I think I'd go the following in this order;

Oxygenated Fuel
Lighter Flywheel
Bigger Cat
Tuning Module
Nitrous

Thanks for the info guys(except for the troll guy, u know what u can do...), I am new to the forums but I have been on here quite a bit before I registered and have read a lot of the threads on FI. I just haven't read a whole lot of them where they actually expressed what they think about the feel of the car after. I see a lot of tech stuff like how much boost their running and what the dyno is showing but I just wanted to see some "real world descriptions". I like my 8 a lot but if I didn't know what the power rating was I would not guess it very high. I had a 3 for a short stint(I'm a single parent, forgive me) and that car feels like it has more then the rated power. I know torque is the key to most of this. Just wanted to see if the FI people feel like there car is performing like they expected it too after the install.

As far as power? Yes. Driveability? As long as you are/know a good tuner! Reliability? As long as you do your homework. It'll cost you though, if you want to do it right. There's always a compromise

This is an 8.
If it is all correctly done and tuned, it should feel just like stock (well except much faster...). That is the beauty of it.
Off the line the car feels just like NA. And then it smoothly and very quickly catches up and smokes almost everything that drives on the streets.

If the feel is any different, get it tuned.

I'm in about 6-7k. Cost of the kit, install, gauges, tuning, misc upgrades... it adds up.

The stock 6.5 psi on the greddy feels good, but the real fun is when you're in double digits. I'm running 10 psi, the power gain is huge. To give you an idea, my 6th gear on the highway pulls about the same as 4th gear on a stock car.

I might have an abnormal greddy turbo, but I hold boost to redline, even now that the weather is warmer. The turbo was rebuilt by mazsport, so it might have been clipped. I've setup my boost controller so that the boost doesn't come on all at once, it's about 6 psi till the higher rpms, where it hits 10-11 psi. Makes the car feel more stock and linear.
