Mazsport Ignition Solution!

Secure mounting is always a good thing...

If you want something at cost, feel free to make your own solution. But keep in mind that we've waited for an ignition solution that works for the RX-8 for about 4 years now, and this is the first thing that has allowed us to go over the 330 whp barrier.
So if you could have done it yourself, you should ask yourself why you didn't do so earlier.

Nothing explains things better than teh kittueh...

Jason, I think you might be misunderstanding a statement that was made a couple posts back; the point that was actually being made was that even though some of us are putting our heads together and discovering the components in the Mazsport Coil Set none of us would want to try and build it all for ourselves nor "steal" the idea from Scott as he did a damned good job, visially anyway, and novody would bother trying to improve upon it. Even the price seems fair for what we are getting.

Scott does a great job with his enhancements, I don't question that as he has a decent track record with customers and his components.
I wouldn't have an Int-X or the cooling mod if he didn't.

hehe. If he wants to do it, that's fine with me. The thing is, unless you're SELLING it in quantity, the amount of time and effort to not only source the hardware, but build the wiring harness, brackets, etc, then test and run with it, would far exceed the entire cost of the ignition upgrade if you calculate how much your time is worth had you spent that amount of time at your day job.
I don't want to come across as being defensive, I have got no personal gain in this. Just a satisfied customer.
Assuming the parts listed above are the parts used in this kit, you're looking at
$130 for ignition system
$60x4 for coils.
$100+? for custom spark wires
That's $470, then custom harness for oem coils to new system, then custom brackets for ignition and coils.
Looks like you'd be losing money making it on your own

Even buying at wholesale prices, you're not going to be buying for a significant amount less than the prices you can find online. The total I listed earlier still doesn't factor in shipping costs to your location (assuming you have to source it from different distributors), possible taxes, the wiring harnesses, mounting plates, etc. plus your time and effort (Seldom can you create something from scratch and have it work flawlessly the first time).
Anyway, I find it pointless to argue further on this topic with you.

my time is worth more then the "lowest" per hour rate of $100 per hr...
but then again...some people sell themselves for $20 per hr...
for some of them...it makes sense...
its all about the variables in your equation...and thus...all relative...
some will justify the costs as "learning"...fine...
i do not need to learn anything new...and thus its cheaper for me to buy a solution and be done with it...
no sense in wasting my time on that noise...

That's actually a leisure time calculation...thats SIGNIFICANTLY higher than my "work" rate...
#365
Heh...when you enjoy it...the rate goes down...its called the "FUN" rate...and its SIGNIFICANTLY less than the "work" rate...

I support Mazsport's Ignition solution. There is no need to "back door" their company.
They have put everything together, at a good price, he is a name you can trust, and you know it was all put together properly. Furthermore, the RX-8 has waited for this solution for years and it's here thanks to Mazsport.

Because it's more completely igniting the fuel.
When upgrading the ignition system, this is a common side effect especially under boost/heavy load at high rpm, because the car was tuned to run with a weak spark.
Usually it's leaner by 0.1 - 0.5 AFR, if your old ignition system was really bad, you might be up to 1 AFR leaner.
