QS, has anyone gone into the dealership with this mod, and been denied service. Would you be able to disconnect this, and reconnect to the stock ignition if you were going in for service. Sorry for the noobish qs.

The ignition system is a important part of this car. Installing a non Mazda ignition gives the dealer an easy out to engine related problems. I know about the Moss-Magnussen Act, but as with any law its just a bunch of words on paper. When it comes time to enforce it you will have a hard time. Switching back to the old coils can be done, but it will take some time so depending on how bad your car is you might not be able to do this. I don't have a warranty so that was not an issue with me.

Yeah, you could throw the stock one back in there without too much trouble. It would take a little time. This assumes you kept the bracket and old coils. Mine is pretty good and have never given me any hassle so far. The ignition system might be pushing it a little, but I think I could get mine to do it without too much trouble.

Very true but I usually rarely check my punctuation unless it really matters.

my car is in for an oil change right now at arlington mazda. the guy (not my normal service person) was a bit leery on it, but i explained it and he seemed ok with it.

i wanted them to check all connections because my car had been running funny. it would get surges of power from 2k-3k rpm. like it wouldnt go smoothly, it would stay at 2k rpm for waay to long and then bam 1/4 second later it would be at 3k rpm.

i had to reset the cars computer, and i've heard driving can be funky after that. but we'll see how much rosenthal complains when i pick my car up.

i HOPE its just the cars computer.

mine has become hard to start when cold - could be the new plugs I put in just after doing the coils ...

My impressions so far
idle - same
performance - same
starting - worse

& still trying to fix persistent cel

Just installed mazsport ignition solution on my JDM (right-hand drive) RX-8 and I am having the same problem Brettus had. The trouble codes come back on even after they are cleared. But the car runs perfectly. I have checked all the wiring and its as per the instructions.

Brettus, Did you get the codes back after a longer drive cycle?

Brettus and a_ahlan, you 2 are scaring me. Are you getting the same "trouble codes"? Are you totally sure its not the wiring? Seems other people are not have the same problem.

I am guessing mazsport did not test the ignition solution on JDM RX-8 and these CEL trouble codes could be specific to JDM RHD RX-8s. However, the car runs better then it did with stock coils and I can definitely feel the power gain.

My car is in for a checking of the brakes.. they have begun to schueel in the morning.. but after they warm up ima get them checked..

I told them about the flash update that i heard about and they are gonna see to it =]]
my car (sometimes) take more than the normal cranking over not just in the mornings this also occurs in the afternoon anytime basically.
hmm the only hesitation i find it in the upper rpms it improved when i got my spark plugs.. but its still there.

sooo hopefully the ignition solution will help.. but still waiting..
Hmmm those CEL lights.. are both of you alls cars JDM RHD?

Did either of you guys even find out what the codes meant?

It's pretty crazy that you are throwing a bunch of codes but it still feels like it runs better...

Brettus, Did you get the codes back after a longer drive cycle?
I've figured out that when you clear the code it pretty much imediately comes back into "codes pending" . The Cel only comes on after a few drive cycles - ie you can drive for a while without the cel coming on after clearing it but once you shut off the engine and re-start it will come back on again .

a_ahlan - did you get the same codes as me - 351 , 352 , 353 & 354 ?

Waiting to hear from Scott as to what the codes are as they are not in the manual .

Brettus I got the same codes as you. I am familiar with these codes as I got them last time 2 of my stock coils failed.

351- Coil 1
352- Coil 2
353- Coil 3
354- Coil 4

when I cleared the code it pretty much imediately came back into "codes pending" . The Cel only comes on after a few drive cycles.

I am going to check the wiring one more time by doing the following -
Disconnect the mazsport harness labeled "1" from the factory (car's) wiring harness and start the car. Then check L1 spark plug if the spark stopped. This is the only way we can verify if the mazsport coil 1 (no. 1 from the front of the car) is conected to L1 of the factory harness.

If Scott does not give us a solution soon, we might just have to learn to live with the codes.

Ditto.....that's the path I was trying to go down with Brettus when he fisrt posted about CEL issues. I assume he and Scott will get it all worked out now.....if that's truly the case.
