Mazsport's Upgraded Fuel System!

For the last several months we have been testing and are now proud to release our fuel system upgrade for the RX-8. The stock fuel pump appears adequate for moderate performance increases we have witnessed failures such as locked up and dragging pumps which have led to internal engine damage.
In a rotary equipped vehicle, reliable, consistant fuel pressure and flow are extremly important and this system was designed to support 400+ rwhp using tried and true components from years of our RX-7 development. We have incorperated a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and have converted the system over to function as return line system which also has eliminated some fuel slosh issues. The factory fuel pump carrier assembly is removed, ours is installed as a unit then the factory fuel line and electrical connections are reattached making this a truly plug and play system. For more information check it out on our website Mazsport.net

We began testing in Feburary with local customers and have been testing with out of state customers for ~6 months.

I think there were some members replacing their fuel pumps even though "in theory" they had enough capacity, and who then reported more consistant performance. Looks like it wasn't just their imagination. Nice to see a plug-and-play kit with no guesswork though.

edit: does the $600 price include the $200 core charge?

I wonder how long it's going to be until we see someone try to post a DIY about this in this thread and totally insult this fine upgrade?

In his traditional fashion, Scott once again delivers on a highly tested and proven product that is benefical to the community.

The $200 is 100% refundable once we receive the customers carrier assembly back in good condition.

I'm still confused. Is it 800$ then 200$ back. or 600$ then 200$ back?
Also how loud is it?

Sorry for the confusion, the pump assembly is $600 and the core charge is $200. Once I receive your core back you are refunded your $200 core. Since we opted to put it in the tank, you cannot hear it run.

Will this cure the problem with fuel starvation on the track during cornering?

Yes it should. During testing I ran the car down to 1/8th of a tank and then ran tight radius circles in both directions with no fuel slosh.

Can you explain how it helps with the fuel slosh problem? I'd expect that slosh is basically only a function of the tank shape and the pickup location. Does this change the pickup location signifigantly?

By positioning the return line next to the pickup it helps ensure there is always fuel at the pickup.

Damn, this just moved up to being a very high priority for me. Will have to get this done this winter.

That still doesn't make sense. You're saying it pours on itself so this prevents it from un-porting? This seems like a circular problem. It still needs to pick up new fuel somewhere. Is the pump located in a very tight, baffled area?

It seems that you would end up with a little bit more time in a sweeper before it cut out, but I still don't see how this helps in long, high-G turns.

I'm sure the pump works for more HP and better pressure control, but I just don't see how it helps with the un-porting issue. I'll take your word though.

fuel starvation is a strange beast in this car. on a long high g sweeper i have no problems, but on one turn on one track-a double apex left hander(not long) it dies.....like turning off the ignition. Thats with a full tank of gas. No other track no other turn have i ever had that problem. Very strange. Scott did you test doing sharp transitions THEN going into a left hander? I know there are many combinations of turns etc and you cant test them all but was just wondering.
This sure sounds like a fix ..Thanks Scott.
i do wonder if this would affect warrenty in any way.

Why not? Have you actually seen a picture of it installed in the tank to make that decision?

No, I haven't, which is why I was asking what method it used to help prevent starvation. All I'm saying is that the current descriptions still don't make sense to me. As olddragger said, I don't think driving around in a circle is a complete test of the fuel system, but that doesn't mean this doesn't fix it.

If everyone else is sure that putting the return line near the fuel pump solves all the problems then I guess I'm just missing something.
