My Motor Replacement Saga..Can't catch a break!
After waiting months and spending a heck of alot of money, the shop working on my car finally finished putting in my new motor and turbokit in 8..The car's engine went at 50,000 miles last summer.. I quickly bought a new motor built by a prominent rotary specialist, purchased the Esmeril Kit, along with anything else I could get my hands on to make a monster of a Renesis..
I planned on doing the work myself, but plans changed when both my parents were diagnosed with Cancer.. Between work and helping my folks I had no time, so I decided to let one of my accounts, Autokicks of Ronkonkoma NY do the work for me. This shop is known for high end work, and does some crazy custom work... My car was surrounded by some nice machines. She sat in the garrage keeping company with a Ferrari 355, a Porsche GT3R, a couple of supercharged Vettes, a sick CTS-V and a 71 Challenger convertable..This place is white glove all the way.. I knew with the amount of work they had, and my car not a top priority, it was gonna take a while...I was willing to wait, just to have the piece of mind that the job was done right...They finished last friday, after months of working on it here and there, between other projects..
I got to experience about 3 minutes of pure bliss.. Took the car for a short run down the block to test the new setup.. She ran good.. I came back to the shop and noticed a puddle oil forming under the car.. Turns out, the motor has an oil leak between the 1st rotor housing and the case. Looks to me like a dowel pin leak. The engine is defective and had to come out..Talk about no luck
They pulled the motor and we have to ship it back to the builder..I don't want to mention who they are just yet...I don't want to trash talk the place, **** does happen I guess..Here's the thing..I wan't to know other's opinions on what is fair to ask of the builder..In essence, now I have to pay for the job twice..I think the builder should bear some of the cost. Don't you guys?? The worst of it is the fact that I know I'm gonna be waiting a while for the engine to be shipped back, fixed, then returned and re-installed.. Can you guys believe that the builder told me that it should only take 4 hours to get the motor back in and he'd consider paying a portion..I don't think that's fair. Not every shop are Rotary specialists..I'm looking at 15+ hours of labor..I'm hoping that the builder does the right thing..If they don't, then I'll have no hesitation letting everyone know who they are..Just want to know what everyone else thinks would be fair to expect of this place to make ammends? Let me know what you guys think..

Its true that a rotary engine can be installed in just a few hours but you have a custom build and in not knowing the details, it is understandable that it may take longer. 15 hrs for just the install does seem a bit long, unless there is a lot of custom stuff going on?
The oil leak you had may have been repaired per a oil bypass line? Again, I dont know the details so I cant say that for sure.
Congrats on being born with such patience and congrats on a nice car.

Here's an update on what's going on with my motor.. I've got more problems than just an oil leak. Apparently something passed through the intake and got into one of the rotor housings and scarred it all up..Maybe it was in the intercooler or somewhere in the piping..Just my luck..When I get the motor back, I think it would be a good idea to initially start the engine with the charge pipe dissconected from the throttle body and use a rag or my hand to catch anything that may be in the intake piping..It's probably going to take 2 weeks to get the motor repaired and sent back. Just had to ship my old motor to the builder so they would have a housing to use. Since the Tsunami, getting parts from Mazda has been close to impossible..They've been waiting 6 weeks for a shipment and have yet to receive it.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to oil prime a new engine? The first time, I took a plug out of each rotor, disconnected the e-shaft sensor and pulled the fuel pump fuse. Then I cranked the motor for a while to get the oil circulating..Anyone have a better way to do it? Any input would be greatly appeciated..Thanks!

wow...I don't know what to tell you buddy. Hope everything works out with the builder, the shipping, getting parts from Mazda, and especially both of your parents. Family if what is most important.
Godspeed.
Godspeed.

Sorry about your folks man--hope it will be alright. Medical care for cancer victims have come a long way. In our prayers.
If the housing was all scarred up then the engine should not have been running correctly. Should not have been running good at all.
The installer should cover this bill--no excuse.
