I may be in the market for a custom impact bumper or pull it off to make it more JDM

Would it be rigid enough if it was a flat piece of metal?

At least it would tie it together.

Maybe some tubular aluminum.

What does the Japanese 8 use to tie it together?

Hey guys where did you relocate the battery??As i don't have empty trunk i am thinking to get a smaller water washing tank and install the battery up there and the water tank next to it or install a water bag infront of the front wheel in the inside of it...

I relocated the battery right alongside the fuse box in the engine compartment(driver's side). I also changed the battery from the huge OEM one to a Deka ETX20L Sealed Battery(20Amps) with drycell technology. It is only slightly thicker than the infamous Oddysey battery(16Amps) but provides almost 50% more punch for starting the car(corvette owners use it for the V8 so it should have no problem with the Renesis). It is made by the manufacturer of the oddysey and since it is sold directly it will cost you a lot less. I only paid $80 shipped for mine on Ebay(brand new) and it works like a charm. Today it was low 40's when I woke up and the car slept outside and it started right up without a hesitation. It all depends on if you drive your car in temps below 0 degrees but unless u do it will work fine. Go backt o the pics and the video, u might get a glimpse of the battery somewhere in there.

Talking Wow!

Hey guys, just wanted to say that yesterday I stepped on the gas for the first time. I had to play with the wastegate springs at first because it wanted to overboost but I finally got to stick at 7psi and WOW, that is all I can say. I havent tuned it and I can totally tell the car is on the rich side(the smell of unburnt fuel) and there are absolutely no signs of detonation. The car starts spooling at around 2800rpms, has full boost at around 3500 and pulls really hard form 4300 on untill redline. I will try to get it to a dyno before winter comes so I will not speculate about Hp figures, it just plain feels good, pins your head to the seat in every gear and even chirps the tires in 4th gear quite noticeable.

All left to do is adjust the EMU for my specific set up although most of the adjusting will be on the vacuum side of the maps(I actually like how its runing under boost/hard throttle) because of the fact that my MAF is on the pressure side of a 3" diam pipe vs the factory suction 3.5 diam intake pipe. This causes the car to be extremely righ at idle and part throttle settings. Other than this it feels great. I couldn't be happier. As soon as any progress is made I'll post it.

Congratulations! this is awesome to hear something like this.
I can't wait to get my setup on the car and see how that will run.

is there any way you could post a couple of close ups as to how you setup that MAF on your car?

Just click on this link and itll take you to some really large pictures of most of the fabricating process:

http://gate.crashing.org/~fray/Chris_RX8_Turbo/

For the MAF I bought a short pipe lenght thats sold to make custom cold air intakes for cars and it comes with adapters for most car brand's MAFs. And then I placed it right before the throttle body but after the BOV to eliminate any stalling issues from the BOV oppening. Good luck wiht your install.

Great to hear that everything is coming together! Did you take the car all the way to redline? What EMU map are you using?

Strangely enough I have the map that came with the EMU which is the one for hte greddy kit and other than the fact that it is extremely rich in idle and part throttle and the fact that it has a small hesitation when transitionin from vacuum to boost(probably because of the different MAF and BOV placement) it works like a charm.

Ohh I almost forgot, I did take the car all the way to redline on two ocassions with absolutely no noticeable loss of power but I'll know for sure when I strap to the dyno.

That's great news! The reason I asked is because I wanted to make sure the Auxiliary Port Valve Motor mod was working properly. How did it feel when the APV opened? Any hesitation or bogging?

I'm not sure if it is opening or not. I didnt feel a change at all in the 6200rpm range. Maybee its opening and I'mnto noticing or maybee its not oppening and thats the reason the car keeps constant and doesnt hesitate. What I do notice is that the CEL is on. I'll have to wait and connect the airpump to the downpipe with the correct tubing(going to use aluminum because it melted the "high temp" hose I had used) and reset the computer to see if it has anything to do with the EMU, up to now I'm happy and I dont think it has anything to do with that. I'll make sure and ship the harness to you tomorrow but I wont be able to get back to you with shipping information untill monday because Ill be leaving town until then.

I road in it today sooooo smooth and soooo easy to break the tires loose with that much power it is amazing. In fact it is so powerful the first time you ride in it your body automatically braces itself for the magnitude of force exerted on it. Chris asked me 'do I like the setup?'...I was at a loss for words .

I have finished pics with the BOV installed. Video will have to wait until monday as we ran out of time and both of us had to go to things related to our girlfriends...I know I know we are wooped .

I also will get him to install the Stock battery so everyone knows it fits in the engine bay easily....then he can put his race battery back in.

Cool

BTW, The car feels amazing. I mounted an air filter yesterday, rerouted new vacumm hoses(black, of course) to and from the BOV, MAP and Boost gage and Made a solid aluminum connection for the Air Pump. I reset the computer and the CEL went off and didnt come on again all night and I drove it for a at least 30 min. All was well untill this morning when I turned on the car, it was extremely rich as usual(havent tuned it for idle/part throttle yet) and the CEL came on again. I noticed yesterday that since the car didnt cool completely, when I turned in on the air pump didint come on, this morning the airpump came on and with it the CEL. I'm guessing that this is because the car is so rich(smells like gas) when its cold that the Oxygen sensor reads a rich AFR when the air pump is in operation and therefore the ECU thinks the airpump might be defective. I'm guessing the problem will be solved as soon as I take some gas away from the idle range and make the car leaner in this area because the airpump will have an effect then and the CEL might stay off. If anyone has any suggestions or has had similar problems with a similar setup I'd appreciate them. In case it is important, My air pump is connected on the downpipe about 18 inches from the rear turbo housing. I was just thinking this might be a little to far considering the exaust gases have to go all the way tot he front of the engine before coming back, they might be cooled enough to prevent combustion with the air from the air pump...I might have to route the airpump tube to a different location closer to or on the manifold. Tell me what u think on the matter guys....

Chris, your probably right in thinking the problem is the rich condition. (P0172 - System too rich or P2097 - Target A/F feedback system too rich) What map are you using?

Guys I have a question. How much boost is safe? I've read of people runing 12 psi on the greddy kit with stock fuel system but my kit actually flows alot more air per psi and doesnt loose pressure with RPM. Hp wise, I read somewhere that you shouldnt go to far past 300hp on stock fuel injectors. I was thinking of raising boost to 9psi on my set up(I'm currently at around 6.5-7) and then tuning the car at that boost. I dont think it will be too much of a problem but its better to be safe than sorry so I ask all you guys opinion.

Chris...Esmeril
