Need help (anyone who knows anything about porting)
The noise from just a simple exhaust or something just doesnt cut it for me. I love the sound that the P-ported race RX-8s make in the Grand Am series, (and yes I do realize those are race-trim 20b's ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIP7P...eature=related ) but I'd like to get the closest possible to that with a stock renesis 13b. So getting to the point, which type of port would be best for daily street use, and what would I be looking at price-wise and how extensive of a modification would it be? Thanks

AFAIK only one or two people have tried a semi-P port on the Renesis. A traditional P-port i think is generally considered not feasible due to design differences from older 13B's. You'll find little to no information on the longevity etc of such a job either. A semi P port may run 10,000 miles or maybe 150, or even 50K.
You will find a lot of ppl ready to flame you for sounding like you want to do MAJOR, semigroundbreaking modification just cause it sounds cool, with no prior idea what your getting into. So don the flamesuit.

There is no easy way to accomplish what you are asking short of building a PP Race motor for that sound. It will make good power but will never ever pass emissions and your neighbors will hate you and the police will get a raise from how many tickets they write you due to how loud it will be due to the exhaust needed for a PP engine to properly breath.
As mentioned a Semi-port is available but again very expensive and will not yeild what you are looking for due to lack of overlap w/ the side exhaust ports. The semi p ports w/ are small periphal ports are used as secondaries. Semi p ports will last much longer than a bridge port will.
The closest way to get this sound is a bridge port on an older 13b. Again its not practical.
Without going into a long winded explaination its just not practical for what you are asking to do.
If you really need more info ask away.

Sry, i'm not a mechanic or anything, but just to clarify I realize that particular sound in the video is absolutely not practical and probably breaking several laws. I was just seeing if there was a milder port or something I could get that's quieter, but where u could still hear that idle from the port timing. Also, i dont want it all just for sound... i wouldnt mind if i gained a few more hp along the way haha

No, of course not, if i had a P-port 20b that would be awesome, and it wouldnt just be for the sound, but i was just seeing if i could do some sort of smaller porting for a renesis 13b, i figured some xtra HP, even a little bit, was a given for any sort of porting, so thats why im only talking about the sound. Sry if people r gettin confused by the video, I was just using that 20b as an example of the "overlap" sound that i was aiming for, even if it was a milder version for a 13b

hmmm, alrite, well i guess im pretty much convinced now ha, sry to change the topic up a little here, but what would make an RX-8 fast as **** while still maintaining long term durability? Turbo? Supercharger? Twin-Turbo?
