^ which is why people are able to run nitrous on turboed cars
( I have mentioned just about everything but I am assuming that me being right is disregarded, or u guys are probably just ignoring me)

The Professor
The reason we have tuning and backfires and the like is because gasoline is a fuel that doesnt have its own oxygen supply.
Without an outside oxygen source gasoline will not burn. Unlike fuels that have their own oxygen supply, TNT, various rocket fuels, and other high explosives. A good way to test is if it will work underwater then it is a fuel that has its own oxygen supply.
backfires occur when the perfectly combustible mixture (fuel, nitrous, air) is no longer being taken in by the engine, its just sitting around in the intake manifold ready to go off a a moments notice. Which is why it happens when you are spraying a nitrous shot that is too big for your RPM, because the nitrous expands as it goes from liquid to gas and heats up, and since the engine is not capable of taking in that much air/fuel/nitrous because it is at a low RPM the mixture has no where to go, making it capable of blowing up the manifold or whatever.
The other main time that backfires might be present are when you are running a big shot and take your foot instantly off the gas (like on a dyno). Where the same thing happens, the nitrous keeps expanding and there is no way for the engine to actually take in the amount of air/fuel/nitrous mixture that is present.
So ideally, someone would make a switch that when you take your foot off the gas it instantly cuts off nitrous flow but keeps running the throttle for a second or 1.5 seconds just so you are sure all the mixture is consumed. That would be a very safe nitrous system.

I am with ya CnnmnSchnpps (thanks for the explanations); to add one last point; nitrous while increasing PPO2 does not increase pressure normally - it would take a large amount to change the pressure ratio enough for your situation. So I am not sure how it would affect flame front and detonation issues (barring a HUGE amount being used).

At high RPM you would only need a fraction of a second between shutting off the nitrous and closing the throttle. I could see that work quite well actually.

amen to that, I don't see anything dangerous with nitrous, I am aware of what can happen if something goes wrong, but that is for mental thought...........
for what its worth, nitrous is a totally legit and effective way of making power...........and cheap too

I think the biggest problem with nitrous systems is the low cost (too easy to buy). Honda ricer boys slap on a 150 shot with zero research and no tuning, then spray at 1500RPM in 5th gear and blame the nitrous for the big fireball that ensues...

^ did u see that video of a supra putting out a 200 dry shot without tuning (and he was turboed)
he blew up his engine and car, he is complaining on the supra forum right now
I think most honda's use the same Zex nitrous kit that we do.........funny how I have never seen anyone on this forum blow up their 8 with a nitrous before

On that note; in that old video with the Mustang, did anybody see something wrong with the way in which that guy was accelerating and slowing down a few times before he nailed it and blew his manifold up? I understand how the dyno process works and his methodology seemed strange to me.
I take it he doesn't have any window switches, or TCS switch huh

to be honest with you I do not have any track time at all with the nitrous system, never been to the dyno, the only times I have is with a stop-watch for 0-60 and 0-100 miles, please don't ask me where I did it but I assure you that it is safe
I will post a dyno sheet as soon as I go dyno my car...........I am trying to find a good one around here so I can make appointment because I can't make it on the 2nd...........I will do the best I can without blowing my engine

its all good about the times... i have seen alot of posts about how it feels quicker and its quite the improvement which i am sure it is ... i have ridden in many nitrous cars... never an 8 though .. and i know it makes a major difference... but i was wanting to see some confirmed numbers on the 8 ... i guess im waitin for your dyno results ... and i wish you luck for good numbers... whats your guess on your WHP. my guess would be ... 240 sprayin?

^ I would say about that much, I am not hoping for much since all I did was slap on a 500$ mod
it would be a different story once I get an EMU.........then I would expect to get 300whp with a 150shot or something like that, but I will wait and see what Ray has to offer before I go along doing any stuff like that
since I am running 60 shot, if my car dynos 200whp lets say (possible seeing the amount of mod I have on it) I should reach 240 whp

even with tuning ... wouldnt a 150 shot be kinda crazy ... i mean another 100 shot on top of the 50 the stock ecu can take is quite a bit ... i dont know if i have that big of *****... i am sure i would bump up to a 100 with tuning ... but then again .. 150 shot would be crazy to drive

150 shot would be ridiculous ... imagine the transition to WOT when your power suddenly doubles... You would probably need a progressive controller of some sort to smooth that out some.

^ true, but considering that alot of other people can run up to 200 shots with stock solenoids, I do not see why the rx8 cannot handle that much more power
as Ray says, if the RX8 can handle boost up to 350+ whp, then it can handle a 200shot nitrous with the right amount of tuning and upgrades

my personal favorite:http://www.nitroussupply.com/proddet...rod=NOS-15835B
I've seen it in person on a shelby at the store, the owner says it does a very good job
