Hey Dave --the fd swap aint that bad according to another member here---forgot his name but he as a dedicated thread on his swap over---did it for less than $1000--i think.
Make you car faster and make your GF mad---win--win situation!
Just make her a center table using your old blow trans as a base--paint it pink or something--she will forgive all after that!

The BHR Ham-Fisted Shifter's Shifting Fister Assister

BHR HFSSFA. Kinda like HKS SSQBOV.

LOL!!! Great stuff guys!

Yeah Denny, I am considering the FD swap. I found one in verified working condition locally for $190 bucks! FD transmissions are dirt cheap and readily available, and rebuild kits are abundant and cheap. So even if I put in the FD trans I happen to blow it, I can get another one for $300 bucks or less!

The biggest hurdle IMO with the FD trans is the clutch actuation- the stock 8 trans is a push clutch and the FD trans is a pull type clutch (I may have it flipped but I think I'm right). I wonder if I can just use an FD master cylinder...not sure. It requires more research!

So basically my transmission has been an issue for the last 10,000 miles. It's grinded gears occasionally so I usually just shifted slow. About 1500 miles ago when I last swapped the fluid for Redline MT90, a shift detent ball was stuck on the magnet of the drain plug (which was eluded to earlier by Ray LOL) so I knew my transmission was a time bomb...

Yesterday I was on my stretch of empty road setting up my boost controller. I did one pass, made an adjustment, and then went for another. I got in 3rd gear and floored it, and once boost hit 14psi I started to get a little tire spin, but like an idiot I kept the pedal down and the tires hooked back up and BANG! The shifter popped out of 3rd gear and started making devil noises. I quickly clutched and tried to shift into 4th but it wouldn't go...

I was able to coast into a parking lot were after a minuet of frustration I was able to get it back into 1st. I was then able to actually limp it home about 6-7 miles. If actually sort of shifted OK (very rough like a truck transmission tho) and once it got stuck in neutral again and I had to use all my might to force it into a drive gear. I'm almost positive I bent the shift fork for 3-4 and also destroyed all my syncro's LOL. It's still driveable just not ideal nor fun.

/\ pushing the limits is sooo much fun isn't it chicken ....
I'm glad you mentioned how it happened as it does seem to be the shock loading that killed it rather than constant torque you might see on a dyno ..

ya it's tight bro. Part of the compressor housing sits in between the exhaust manifold runners

Yeah Bret, pushing is always fun! It gives me an opportunity to build it bigger and better. We all know the stock transmission is trash so oh wellz. I actually think an FD 5-speed (or possible an FC turbo 5-speed S4 version, S5 is the same as the FD trans...) is easier than most people think and cheaper as well. You can pick up these 5-speed gearboxes for next to nothing I tell you

Yeah 3071R is a VERY tight fit down there. chickenwafer, let us know if you do the FD transmission, I'm pondering what I will do if my transmission ever gives out and it doesn't sound like a bad bet.

He won't do it unless someone does it for him. Like every other mod on his car.

Excuse me old man? If you have something to say it. I've done all my mods on my car myself.

You wouldn't know what you're talking about anyway, old age does that.

And if you were trying to be funny, Erick, you weren't. I considered you my friend....whatever *******

I am pretty sure Erick wasn't mincing words there.

Old age? That is your only retort?

He wasn't being funny. He was calling you out for your inaccurate portrayal of having done all your mods by yourself. There were/are a LOT of people whom have helped you along the way that you have refused to acknowledge. People who helped you even after you talked **** about them. Brice and myself for starters. Then there is Jeff, Erick, Kane, probably Brian Cain, and I am sure a handful of AZ "homies" as well.

I've NEVER claimed to all mods solely by myself. I've also never sat back and watched while people worked on my car. Yes I worked on my car with friends, is that allowed? Thanks Ray.

When have I talked **** about you? Or Jeef? Or Erick, or BC, Kane or even Brice?? Come on, are you being serious right now? How come Kane or Brian have no problems with me? They haven't said anything. Only you and Erick seem to have their panties in a twist.

Kane helped me out on the dyno and I gave him credit for that. You've helped me out and I have you credit. I remember helping you swap out your suspension before for struts/spring. I guess that means you don't do your own work?

I've never refused to acknowledge anyone and it's funny that once I move away from Arizona you guys feel you can come out like this. Enlightening.

Go eat a dick, Ray.

Funny how a vendor treats potential customers, eh?

I've helped work on Jeef's, Erick's, Todd's, and Ray's car as well as others. It what we did. God forbid I have someone come over and help install something, right? Not to mention I did plenty of **** on my own. I basically installed that turbo by myself with the only help really from Shawn and Jeef.

You have no clue what you're talking about and just making yourself look dumb

Like I always say, things only go but so far but we have something in common, can you guess?

I've watched this forum for some years now and have finally decided to join and would not expect something like this to happen, although I don't think it's a "big deal". Simply keep remarks like he would not do it himself or calling someone else a dick to yourself unless it was really needed to have been said. Disrespect seems unacceptable to me but then again this is just a "online club", lmao (with the exception of some people actually knowing each other personally)

Just get back on topic and explain what your next plans are. Lets just keep the info going and so on.

I've tried to gather info for a few years now by reading this forum and have finally joined this summer and would like this forum to last.

what is this high school?
oh look the cool kids on the back of the bus are trying to stir up ****.

For the record, Dave (CW) has helped me more than anyone on this forum and has never asked for anything in return. Most of this nobody has any idea about either. You don't see him looking to get some sort of God status on the forum for it either.

Kinda puts things into perspective for me.

Now, can we cut this bs? This isn't a lounge.

Same here Dave(ChickenWiaver or wafer...) has been nothing but helpful... I don't know the drama back in AZ but he is very helpful in CO (Coloradomazdaclub) and is always willing to lend a hand.

**** he even offered to help me out while I am in Iraq and has never even met me in person!
