My question is; the shop said they can tune the car via Interceptor X. Is this a good Idea? or should I go with the baseline from Pettit?
Dave recommended the Interceptor?

You want a car specific tune because no two cars are the same, elevation, mods, etc.. With that being said, most of the supercharger guys I know have custom locked tunes. Even if they wanted they can't just send you their own map. If you want a professional tune I suggest Mainstream Performance in Dallas, GA (only let Scott do the tuning). Where are you in Alabama?

omar - I wouldn't let just any shop tune it unless they had experience in tuning FI rotaries
if you have an AP of dude logger just get MM or Cam to tune it

Interceptor has issues. If the weather changes or elevation your tune dosnt follow suit. If you want to go the microtec route theres a plug and play unit strait from microtec that has everything covered and isnt missing stuff.

This is my problem. In the tri-state area there isn't any Rotary tuners around here. The closest is in PA that has any experience with Rx8's. And he is recommending we use the Interceptor X.

Yes Dave did. He said he is more experienced with the Interceptor X since he is a Microtech specialist. so that we should go down that route.

This guy Dave has lots of experience with FI Rotaries. Rotaries in general also a little with 8's. MM had one of his tuning meets there. I have the dude logger I just cant figure the damn thing out. I'm working on getting a Cobb right now. I might be picking one up from Greg. I'm just nervous about tuning over the internet. And as far as the cobb I haven't heard many great things about MM's service. So idk

Yea, I'm thinking maybe Kane. I just don't know him, so I have to build that relationship.

he came down to Texas and did a live tuning session with the SARX crew
if you know any of them I'm sure they could tell you more about him...they all think highly of him
I've met him at DGRR before...seems like a nice guy

Kane is one of the greatest guys i know from 8club. I was tuning my old project boosted mirage and used him as a reference throughout the tuning process. He helped me greatly and it wasn't even on the 8 platform. Plus, the guy developed software that a monkey can use to tune with. Yea, he knows his stuff.
I can't wait to see vids of your set-up running right. Most of the boosted members like to keep everything hush hush(SLVR!!!!)

No better than Kane. He understands this car and all its little differences

slvrstreak has the Pettit tune and i have looked at his with the dudelogger, it is a conservative tune and solid. Cam can send it to you over the internet.
Call Cam and listen to Moon. Do not use the interceptor X.

Steve Kane has done some remote tuning with Juan and his kit. Juan is pushing the envelope lol. He has a normal tune and a higher octane track tune he switches too while tracking.

Go conservative on the tune and dont take the engine any higher than 8.2 K rpms. Seriously!!!

Remember we have the intake air temperature sensor pre boost ( unless you change that) so we kinda loose that compensation metric too, be sure your tuner knows this.

You can install this kit yourself. It really is not that hard--it is just work. I like doing that because then you know the system well. So if the need for troubleshooting develops then you already have a good idea of what to look for.

Jeff's used the KDR dyno twice actually. Dave tried a couple times to get Cobb to sell him ATR Pro but was told no can do. I'm surprised he didn't recommend the Adaptronic.

Ok so which Kane am I contacting for when that time comes, because there are 2 here on the forums.

I'm going to get the dude logger to work and send Cam the file so hopefully he can send me a conservative tune to drive around on. And then I will proceed with Kane and the Cobb to fine tune my cars specific needs. Btw ran into a problem yesterday I will post a crap load of detailed pics when I get home from work tomorrow.

Thanks got it. I will be contacting you soon.

So guys I'm just going to throw it all on the table. When I was in the process of purchasing the kit I was made aware the kit in question was the prototype SC Pettit kit. I was told the kit was in perfect working condition, only had about 6-8k miles on it, and that Pettit themselves were removing the kit from the car it was currently installed on. When the kit was removed I was told the heat exchangers were in such bad shape; they would not be reusable. With only so many kits on the market I decided to make an impulse purchase anyway and later purchasing heat exchangers from Cam Jr. Even though the seller raised the price because of a supposed higher offer.

Being the esthetics perfectionist that I am I obviously wasn't happy with the kits appearance so I purchased the cast items (UIM & top of intercooler core) from Pettit to replace the current welded prototype pieces. After I did all this I stored the kit for the winter, because I was moving from my home and had way to many personal things going on to finish the car.

This brings us to present day. I have unpacked everything and I was about to be on my way to a local shop yesterday to have all the pieces welded on and the whole kit powder coated; to only find out that the intercooler cast piece was the wrong size FML. I called Pettit and for the 1st time spoke to Cam Sr. He said in 6-8weeks they will have 10+ intercooler cores coming in and to send the cast piece with the original intercooler I have and he will weld the cast piece onto a brand new intercooler for a cost of $200 plus shipping.

So I can't wait that long. I want to have the car up and running and have some tuning done ASAP, so I could drive the car a bit with the SC before I take a 700+ mile trip from NYC to North Carolina for DGRR13. I have decide to install the kit as is and when Cam has the intercooler cores and is ready then I will go ahead and get the esthetics done.

Now I want to ask for your help guys. I’m going to post pictures of everything I have. If you could please comment and let me know if I’m missing any pieces or suggestions on buying new parts or even parts that will help improve the kit.

What I currently have installed: AEM CAI, HKS Legemax cat back, Racing beat dual res. Gauges: oil tmp, water tmp, oil pressure, and volt.

There is only one Kane I am aware of, me.

Steve Kan, is a extremely well regarded tuner in TX, and from what I have heard he has gotten quite a few Cobb's under his belt now, so he'd be ideal to use as a tuner. I know he did OD's 8, at least I still think OD is on a Kan tune.

Anyway, just want to make sure there was no confusion as to who is who.

Thanks, because I was def a lil confused lol. Do you think you would be available to help me tune this thing if I can get it on the car in one piece =]

Damnnnn should I be worried about installing this thing? Cam Jr. told me the kit was in great working condition and that the car it was installed on never had any problems and that the kit had tops 8k miles on it.

Thanks for coming in Kane. Kane and Kan--no wonder I confused folks. I think when I had Steve K do my tune ( on dyno) you were still out of the country? Not sure but I think that was the case.
I think I was the first supercharged RX8 Steve tuned? But, it sure worked out well.
Now NYC, Kane can do just as good a job-- I am sure.

WOW that is an early kit. Its the Frankenstein kit
It should work ok---but ? why are the coolers not usable? Are they leaking?
I have many little hints to share with you.
It looks like you do have the good by pass valve.
The intercooler itself looks smaller--so you will have to watch charge temps. There are several things you can do to help with that.
I wish I was closer--we could slap this baby on in a day.

Once you are ready, we can work something out - for now focus on the install, get all the mechanicals right, and we can take care of the tuning when you are done.

But tuning cannot fix a mechanical issue, so one thing at a time. Get with guys like OD and Moon and they will get you rolling with tips and tricks to do it right the first time.

Yes it definitely is a Frankenstein kit. I was thinking of getting a decal that said "home garage built!" lol. The heat exchangers that came with the kit were rotten and leaking. the ones you see in the picture are the new/used ones I got from Cam Jr. So before I start the install I was thinking of buying the following:

1. Spark Plugs (Cam said something about gapping the plugs? should I just order them from him and have him do the gapping?)
2. Cobb
3. AEM wideband AFR gauge
4. AEM boost digital display gauge
5. Charge temp gauge
6. Oil filter relocation kit
7. Battery relocation kit

Anything else I should get so I can install it all in one shot? I'm planing on ordering everything in within the next few days.
