Some of those are valid, some not. I never saw the temp or fan issues as claimed, despite slowing the water pump down with lower pulley ratios. Same for timing. The engine builder didn't see any corrosion or other issues, but the whole process of getting to the waterless stage after water was in the engine (mine was broken in on the engine dyno, but I did flip and drain it well before installing) is a lot of work. Mostly I'm moving away from it due to the heat exchange difference as compared to water. The shroud/fan setup I'm trying to achieve to minimize excess heat blowing all over the engine bay will likely have lower flow overall, but while also staying with the lighter OE radiator setup. I'm also moving to a much higher pressure cap to address the lower boiling issue, so we'll see if something blows out or not. The Evans definitely resolves that issue without needing any pressure increase.

For turbo I would probably stay with Evans though. My situation now is a unique test to see if I can cool enough with minimum radiator flow-thru

Anyone care to explain why are the heat exchanges run in parallel and not series like our oil coolers and most setups I see?

I asked that same question, it was due to the flow rate, the two exchangers are more efficient in parallel than in series.

Don't think I've ever seen a diagram for the Pettit system though.

Only pic I can find quickly, you can see the coolers in the top right are T-tapped in parallel.

But without the ducting they would essentially be useless IMO. If it were me I would use one large quality heat exchanger mounted the way they are designed to be mounted, right on the crash bar, not laying down.

I was going to lay mine down, with venting out the bottom of the undertray and fans mounted on top controlled via a thermocoupler controller.

Pusher fans or puller fans? I mean I guess with strong enough pusher fans that might work but I'm not sure what effect that would have on aero at high speeds since you are planning to do HPDE's. And I would just have a heat ex-changer on the SC itself, I think the routing of the Pettit coolers is silly and if you have a proper radiator, etc. you should not need the second heat ex-changer on the cars cooling circuit. Just keep the cooling system for the SC divorced.

Pusher Fans, and I will not be tracking this car in the foreseeable future (I have an HPDE event this weekend at Gingnerman in the STI).

Vented out the bottom, wont it act like a v-mount with the OE duct, air would flow both through the rad and through the exchangers and then vent out the bottom (high pressure flows to low). Or am I missing something??

Not sure what happened to my later post, but compare those to the size of the intercooler, so parallel to handle the flow and heat exchange duty. I always thought it was just one big htx, rather than two.

Its time to start doing some improvements on my Pettit kit I decided to go with one much thicker intercooler instead of two. I am removing my crash bar in favor of a new tube one and will mount this in the top portion of my MS bumper. The plastic section has been removed. I will probably run two 7" fans on it also. I like just having one tube in one tube out versus the original design and the drain is nice. The core is 24x7x2.

After this I plan to make a cold air intake. Anyone owners do anything with that recently? I've seen some of the set ups that have been around. Im thinking I want to revert to the original intake diameter and then tuning for this, also using screens seem like a good thing to do.

My under hood intercooler is too hot for my taste after pushing the car any. My coolant really does not seem to hot though. I think what really is going to help it all is hooking up my water injection but I would like to remove the intercooler and intake portion of the SC to do that.

Terminology correction - that's the remote radiator for the water cooled intercooler.

Would recommend you use a honeycomb rather than screen for the intake

I should have clarified. The honeycomb style is more like what I will be getting. I had talked to 9k a while back and he mentioned the honeycomb style. Thanks for the link.

That looks like mine, did you get it from Frozenboost.com (http://www.frozenboost.com/water-to-...-p-1063.html)?
Does the cooler hold 32 oz?
It should work good, but make a duct to force air through it and out the bottom.

I really like the idea of the extra cooling but I do not think I like how it is attached. Seems like it could be vulnerable there. Also probably would make removing the under tray a longer process. I really need to upgrade my OEM radiator as thats what im still running. I have been thinking of getting a CSF replacement.

This is the one from Frozen Boost, The quality looks great. Im not sure if mine holds 32oz yet or not, I did not see that on their site but I will check once I use it.

Some ducting for it will be on my to-do list. Are you running any fans on yours Rote8?

Hi all,

Just fitted my kit but unsure what oil to use in the SC, I have redline lightweight shockproof oil, but the manual says 20W-50. What does everyone in here use?

Cheers

I have questions regarding the recirculating valve, I do not fully understand how this is controlled open/closed, and how its plumed. How does it go from idle to pressurized when throttle "request"? Could someone share some info/links? Would be great.

Edit
See attached picture, is it so that you have a slight vacuum during cruising(and idle), then when you open throttle pressure increase to around atmosphere, this open recirc valve. Have I understood correctly?

My Pettit charger is leaking oil into the intake and out through the bottom of the filter onto the intake tray, now i think is just the vacuum pulling it through at WOT throttle and probably adding a catch can would cure this.

I was looking to rebuild the charger but in my search i have come across the Kenne Bell 2.1L screw type charger in which all the mounts are in the same place, however this charger is 1.2cm longer. has anyone suceessfully fitted this charger to the Pettit system?

Where does the hose coming off of your oil feed tube go to? In the previous version mine went from the feed tube to a T fitting that had a filter on the top and another tube that went to the compressor right under the A/W coolant line going into the intercooler. I am actually in the process of changing this hoping to come up with a better solution.

As far as the Kenne Bell blower goes I believe Rote8 has mounted one to his system. I thought I have seen him mention that. Whoever it was said that there was modification needed but I believe it worked out, Let me know how it goes if you do it. Id like a spare compressor someday.
