I'm not sure that the "third dongle" was the direct cause of this, but I suspect that Ryan's distaste for mechanical empathy may have been a contributing factor.

Yup that engine is toast. Still waiting on my crate motor to get here. Ray @ PFS said 3-5 days so hopefully I will have it for next weekend. I needed a break anyway I got rear ended in my Audi So I got to get that fixed now .

i think the problem is not the greedy kit all by it self... the problem is that emanage that they keep trying to use....

if i were to use the emanage unit that i got, i would probably have the same fate that you had....

so i had a different aproach that rewarded me a lot more than i thouht

The only ones I've seen them do had the coating fail within about 700 miles. It tore up the engine completely. Newly built ruined engine. I'll need to see alot more proof their stuff works god before I do anything with them. They do advertise that they have the exact same coating as the 787B housings. What they don't tell you is that they weren't the one's who did it. That's where the problem is.

hmmm.

and they're charging about $50 less to coat them than it would be to just buy new irons. you make a good point.

Well that may be your feeling on this but it had nothing to do with PFS at all. Have you been sleeping or have you not seen the 8000 threads with people not getting there cars to run correct with the greddy kit. You sound like a guy or gal with no knowledge of cars. Turbocharged rotarys are one of the hardest cars to tune because they break very easy compared to a piston engine. Get your facts straight before you spout off at the mouth. Spend a few minutes looking thru the threads of all the guys on here with the problems they are having and soon there will be more broken motors unless greddy fixes the e-manage.

So do you want to sell one of your dead housings to go towards new exhaust sleeve research?

Yeah, the E-Manage probably isn't a good solution for a good hand-full of the RX-8s out there.
It works fine for others.
Works adequately on mine, though I am probably going to go with a more flexible solution in the near future.
The E-Manage relies to heavily on the existing PCM - the RX-8 PCM is VERY sensitive and VERY proactive. Pulling its control over the fuel and ignition completely away is really the best solution.
That said, the mere mention of PFS leaves a bad taste in many mouths because of the sheer number of mildly tuned cars that they blew up over the years.
Now that it is in Ray's hands, they might do well to erase that preconception by producing some visible results.

If I take an old 13B housing and drill a couple of "side ports" into it, do you think they'll notice?

Yeah ... interestingly ... word is MAZDATRIX dropped selling the GREDDY kit because GREDDY couldn't make it work right on their (MAZDATRIX's) test mule.

What are you thinking about going with in the near future? Have you thought about the ultimate emanage?

I am going to take a good look at the new E-Manage, but I will probably go with something more versatile like the AEM or SDS.

thanks, MM. that's just what i was looking for - alternatives to the e-manage. my car is currently in Ray's capable hands at PFS. seeing the host of issues with Greddy's unit, i was wondering what options are available right now. i'm looking into the AEM and SDS units now. any word when the ultimate e-manage will be released?

E-Manage Ultimate is out I believe. I think GReddy is going to use that with the turbo instead of the regular version in a few months.
