tuned properly you'll typically get anywhere from 260 - 290. Depending on how much power your car currently makes and how bleeding edge you're willing to go.

I have no before dyno, but I make about 275 whp now, safe tune, not trying at all for power. So stock for a 6MT is 170-190 whp..

I'm very happy with mine, It took about 2 months to get it working properly. Not as bad as it sounds, half of the problems I had was unrelated to the turbo - stuff like coils burning.

After the 2 month period, it's been flawless. Really, you'd need to get with someone who has a properly tuned turbo kit boosting at 10-12 psi to see what you get for the money. The stock 6-7 psi feels outright anemic.

mid pipe: 250
boost controller: 300
ems: 1,400
tuning: 300
intstall: 1,000
that's all the basic stuff, i also got a koyo radiator, cooling fan upgrade, and fuel system upgrade as a safty precaution. soon i'm going with a 3 row intercooler, porting the turbo, and putting a bigger compressor wheel in too. so who knows how much i actually spent or will continue to spend.

greddy kit $3250 (with ultimate)
turbonetics bov $110 ebay
srt 4 boost guage - free
ngk powerdex afr kit $225
3'' stainless steel exhaust from the turbo back - free
tunning $600
install - free (I did it in my garage, took about 10 hours by my self)
the look of shock when your bov goes off - priceless.
I'm not up to 10 psi, still 5.6 but I've already put about 4,800 to 5,000 miles on it and its freakin great.

I'm in Moostafa's camp. Fixing the problems took a lot more $$$. The headache of having to go back & forth to my mechanic to get little niggling problems fixed. In hindsight, was it fun..yep. Would I do it again ? Not in a million years. For me, I would have went the nitrous route. Or better yet, just waited and stepped up to a Mazsport unit now (I was one of the first ones on this board to have the Greddy kit, and consequently dealt with many of the issues that have KIND'VE been solved these days). Greddy quality control & customer service was absolute garbage.

I'm still seriously on the fence between the GReddy kit with Int-X and turbo upgrade (larger compressor; offered by Mazsport) or the Mazsport kit. I want the least amount of headaches, so I think I already answered my question......

Realistically you are looking at about $3500 for the Greddy kit, $1500 for the Interceptor X, and another $1000 for the turbo conversion. At $6K, you are a stones throw away from the Mazsport kit. Which has better turbo placement, a bigger T4 turbo right off the bat, better quality components throughout. Seems like the choice is pretty clear cut.

While I agree that the Mazsport kit is of better quality and more reflective of knowing the Renesis, a lot of the periphereal costs of turboing will apply to both kits. With either kit, you will be paying (or doing yourself) install and tuning. Things like a clutch upgrade or gauges will also be extra for both kits. I think the bottom line is turbo is a lot more expensive then just buying the kit.

In my case, I had it all done by a shop, did a factory type install totally sleeper. With gauges and all the mods to firewall, pans etc. I am in about $7500 including exhaust. But I have a warranty... so that is something to consider.

Its so funny how the average newbie sees the Greddy kit for like 4k, and thinks thats all they need to invest - when in actuality, it's about double.

Great eyeopener

^^ Exactly.

and when their engines blow up, first thing they will blame is Rotary and Mazda. Never thought about their own stupidity

Sure Greddy's kit cost only 3K-ish. but most of the stuff came with the kit are garbage, not to mention their *excellent* customer service. Some of their products are good but basically buy at your own risk.

One bad thing about Int-X is that u need to tune it very often ... somtimes as soon as the weather change ..... thats what I've seen on this board.

Yeah, this kid from around my town, got the greddy turbo kit with the blue e manage, a while back before their was the ultimate upgrade kit, and with out doing any reserch and with no extra electronics, got the kit installed as is shipped from greddy. this car was backfiring and shooting flames like crazy, something wasnt right, but he didnt payany attention to it, and he would race around all over the palce. Then he brought it to some shop to try and get more power out of it, and you guys know what the end result is............... he blew his motor.

What you guys are saying goes for any kit. Take the kit cost, add another 3000 - 4000 on top of that.

I haven't had my int-x tuned for weather changes. Runs great in the heat or in the cold....

We are all saying roughly the same thing. If you think you are going to add 50% more power for cheap you are an idiot. DON'T DO IT. If you have a realistic budget (mine is 10K) and are prepared to spend it without heart burn, then you can do well with any of the kits. I personally think it is worth it, it was def worth the peace of mind to have a pro do it, and have the warranty. Ron's Performance is an authorized Greddy dealer, so they seem to have the customer service kinks worked out.

I am curious though. Why doesnt the Greddy kit, for example, advertise that you need more than the kit to go?

They can be a bit misleading with words such as "bolt on", "kit" and "ready to go"

You can bolt it on and go. It will make more power than stock. That said, there's a few "fixes" that make it operate better, and a few parts that you'd be wise to replace. Anyone who's done their research would know all of this. The greddy kit still comes out far cheaper than any FI available for the RX-8 (not including spraying).

There are a lot of items that do the same thing... think about the computer you are using, it is ready to go, just need UPS, software, wireless mouse (or optical), speakers, etc etc.

There is a law about it as for truth in advertising but I forget the exact verbiage, something to the effect that is has to do what it says, so you can bolt it all on and drive away and never touch it again... it just won't be that great.

Again, if you go through a dealer (IMHO), you get that extra info up front, here is what you have to have, here is what you should have, here is what is nice to have etc. Mazda Maniac did the same thing in an earlier post on the Horsepower forum.
