But seriously with talking to lots of the overboosted club, i think that with the AP many turbo reliability issues have been close to solved. Be wary of people who say the engine is nothing but trouble who have only used custom setups with homemade maps.

Hilarious, but no. More like in my own unpaved dirt-road neighborhood. I figured since I was so close to home I may as well (again) try to "blow up" my Renesis like I did when I was testing nitrous shots. It didn't work and the damned thing is still running to this day.

I do, however, have a second Renny that I will be tearing down and rebuilding. I shall take my time and cover all the details this time. I left a few out last time due to cash/time concerns.

Is it worth it?

For me, yes, for several reasons. I enjoy the car a hell of a lot more.

If you can afford it, and are planning on keeping the car for a very long time, then I say go for it, because you will enjoy the car a lot more. Otherwise, no, probably not worth it.

i believe that the rotary is all about care and maintenance...if you are willing to warm it up every morning and change the oil every 3000 miles or even 2000 miles, the engine will last and last...if you can restrain yourself from abusing the car then go for it...but with a boosted car all it takes is that one day where you're careless and redline it at full boost when the engine's still cold and you'll be kicking yourself in the ***...trust me it happened to me on my FD...but there's absolutely NO replacement for a boosted rotary...if you can afford it it will always give you good memories...I wish I had the money to boost my 8, but just don't...I spend all my money tracking the car and I really don't need to make the engine even more prone to overheating

as far as the 3k turbo thing I dont know what your looking at because everything seems to be like 5k and up no including installation, unless its just some ebay crap which is completely out of the question.

I do plan on keeping the car because I absolutely love it and I guess I will get a kit just not right now save up a little longer, I mean ive spent a little over 3k into the exterior in the past 2 1/2 months so I suppose lol I could just save up.

I'm leaning towards a supercharger personally cuz I just think there would be less problems with it cuz all you have is a belt addon and pettit racing will install theirs at their shop for 7500 dollars.

Let's not forget that there are tons of "thrills and chills" available from the RX-8 starting with HPDE events. Even if you don't want to race your car, attending such events will help you learn what the car (and YOU, too) is capable of.

I know Olddragger schooled me a few years ago and I have appreciated it ever since.

from past experience with cars converted to FI, I will say you have to pay a little more attention to things maint wise.

Engine:
changing oil more often is #1,
spark plugs more often,
paying more attention to the temp
(helps to have a tiny amber light tucked somewhere to light up just in case you miss it)

the safety stuff now :
the upgraded headlights if you dont have HID (now you can overdrive them)
the better brakes cuz you will be going faster now. (even just getting braided lines, DOT4 and some EBC greens or something make a world of difference)

the repercussions:
self restraint (wide open+more fun= wide open more often)
so the ensueing tickets will cost more (faster car= faster ticket)
and the surgary to get the grin off your face is expensive from what i hear.

if you want to blow an engine CRH set up a direct port nitrous setup. Im sure you could pump enough juice directly to the chamber to cause some interesting cumbustion events. Just make sure you videotape it.

as far as the SC vs TC debate its preference. Dont try and think that one is more "safe" than the other. There are good kits for both, but both will need good tuning and a watchful eye on some important data.

I always make the mistake of thinking we are speaking within the realms of reason and rationale around here when discussing technical stuff. As I grow older I realize that Shakespeare's observations regarding humanity are spot-on.

Like I said, when tuned with care and diligence, the Renesis is pretty forgiving and robust.

I know FI is going to be somewhat of a pain no matter what but I have heard alot of good things about the renesis engine so far so i think it will be worth it in the end, especially cuz i plan on keeping the car for several years

It doesn't have to be. There are several solutions out there that are pain free; 18,000 miles with mine so far and nothing but smiles. The only caveat you have to be able afford to do it right the first time, unless you can afford to have your engine rebuilt.

If done right, the benefits are very noticeable; there are quite a few people right now that are close to doubling their daily-driven car's whp. This makes an already fun to drive car, !@#$ing FUN to drive

Quite true. I am going to start prepping another engine to deal with a 150 shot.

Also this thread was a good read. Considering I'm going to purchase a TURBO kit this weekend. And I really dont have the money, or the money to rebuild the engine, etc. But I'm doing it for the love of speed, cars, etc. I just cant say NO!!! Hopefully I get it tuned good.

Those who ask my opinions on F/I are often surprised at what I have to say on the matter, especially given my public associations. Objectivity DOES exist around here..........
