Get the GT42R, you'll see full boost by 4000 and it won't matter cuz you'll have another 5500 to play with.
I wonder how fast a GT3540R would spool on an RX-8 with the stock side ports and ported. Anyone wanna make a guess?

Dave I want you to try something. This may seem really weird. I want you to put a restriction in the intake somewhere to allow less air into the engine. I want to see if the car gets faster. It sounds backwards I know but try it.

LMAO
i already thought of that. we're totally on the same page here.

and so far, we've all overlooked any port actuation problems. what if the secondary ports aren't opening? it could be as simple and dumb as that. i know the aux ports are opening because there's a noticable power boost and change in sound up high, but hey, maybe i left 1 of the 3 vacuum lines unplugged or something?

if it's still kooky when we tune it, i'll bring a vacuum pump and manually actuate them just to rule that out.
hey, i'm human and although i try to make it as rare as possible, sometimes things go wrong--forget stuff or get it backwards, etc... but whatever it is, we'll get it figured out.

Two things:
1. I wanted to refloat the thread.
2. Did you get the chance to rule out the vacuum lines?

guys,
I also know nothing but i do remember people playing with the cz/maf thing and finding differant voltages for differant maf. They where even swapping maf's from car to car. so tuning is the only answer. (unless the ports arent opening or that vacumn line isnt on!)
like i said i dont know nothing here.

hey, do you remember this car? What did you do to the engine as far as portwork goes and is it wrecked really bad or just minor. Any help would be great. Thanks guitar junkie.

I figured as much. I really didnt mind if it was just a little damage that was fixed, but if it was extensive cars rarely drive right after. Just saw your name on it and wondered how much you put into the engine as far as portwork goes and if he had some dynos.

nope...he wouldn't spend the money for the dyno run. i'm kinda pissed off at how he's advertising the car. i gave him a $2-3k list of repairs that needed to be made, then he decided to sell it, and he's going off like it's a great car. no port work was done...that would have been its saving grace.

ok, i'll get into it.

first thing i'd do is tear the motor back down and replace the bearings. everything else on the motor looked almost like new. that motor started life as a reman, but whoever had it beat the royal **** out of it and the bearings got a little galled. just about every bushing on the car needs to be replaced, he made me take off the a/c and p/s (the 2 things that did make the car livable), frightening vibration above 5k rpm, one of the motor mounts is toast, diff clunks and feels like it's gonna fall right out the back, brakes click when they're applied, electrical problems for days!, crackhead malfunctioning alarm system......should go on?

it's one thing to sell a car that needs work, but he's not listing any of the stuff needed to make it a roadworthy. that's just dishonest in my book. i don't think i'll be doing any more work for that guy.

Thanks for being honest!! Not that I would bid on the car, but hopefully someone spots this, or this mysteriously gets forwarded to e-bay

In any case, this shure does put me off from vehicle shopping on e-bay!

Ever watched 'Day of the living thread'?
I haven't followed on on this thread for a VERY long time. There is probably another thread by now with a bunch of updates. If so, could someone slap me and tell me where it is?

If not, GuitarJunkie & Snoochie....how are things going?!

car is in the body shop getting the bumper fixed.

the last tiem i drove it, it was running beautifully. road-tuned to about 13:1 and 2* taken out of the timing. felt MUCH MCUH faster than stock. but it **** out on the dyno--only did like 180 someodd and the throttle plate wouldn't open past 67%. we pissed the computer off somehow :p i KNOW it's faster than that, so i think we'll just **** on the dyno until we get the stand alone installed.

microtech has informed me that the lt12 can be configured to read the crank wheel from the 8, so when the next batch of money gets saved up, i think that'll be the way we go.

share the input signals so the pcm thinks it's in charge, but injectors and ignition will be controlled through the microtech. we have to give up the knock retard, so a few j&s boxes may be employed in the future. maybe.

that's about it for now though. i'll update when we get the ems installed and i'll do a writeup so other guys with that mod in mind can give it a go.

So can you do a mild street port without much modification to the engine management? Or does it just ****-off the computer too much?

I'd be interested in doing a mild port if I didn't have to worry about the effects on the engine management, even though I have the CZ. I just don't like being restricted to 6k-9k tuning when the porting is in effect 100% of the time. Definiately don't want a stand alone yet...

yea, the small streetport made like 8-9% above 4k-4500 rpm with no tuning at all. and it was running richer than stock.

it didn't take any power from down low either.

How much louder is it over stock? And also how much more extensive could you get with the port while still maintaining emissions?
