i understand your situation as having 3 kids this will look like entire goofy crap.
the car's only depreciating asset if you have a mind of selling it down the road.
but its not if you're gonna keep and enjoy it for however long you want to.
you mentioned you'll get number of cars with 80k , but none of those will be nearly as fun as 600whp rx8. and how do you know 600whp rx8 will not be drivable?
I've seen several supras with 1000whp as daily driver.
again, its your opinion and i respect that
i guess being 22 year old , i'm being little bit impractical, but i think the project is cool

Sounds like a great project. There can never be enough people with the time, money and ability to experiement trying new things such as this and learning along the way. Good luck, post often. :D

Why not just go to Acosta & get the 20B swap (& other stuff) for $60K ? Supposed to be 600 whp at low boost & 900 hp at high boost.

Agreed...

I'd rather test the limits of the Renesis and have those bragging rights if I'm spending that type of cash.

I wish I had the money to do this.... I dream of making this car hang with a Z06, I think with 600HP it certainly will (and then some).

Now...hopefully it can be made to do so reliably as a daily driver. That will be more of a challenge. Hopefully 80k is enough to do it.

If it turns out well it might jumpstart the slow output of serious horsepower mods for the renesis. Its about time we got some serious numbers on it. This sounds awsome. I cant wait to see the final product. good luck.

To answer your question about the trans. I'm not sure what the price of the trans swap alone would cost because it's being figured in with the cost of the rest of the project. But I believe he mentioned modifing the drive shaft, and something else but I don't remember exactly what he said. I'll ask him what he's changing out.

Stand alone units we've discussed is the Power FC, Haltech, and again I don't remember the other options he's mentioned. But he did name several options I'll get a list of options from him. Ray wants to use something adequite, but he doesn't want to overkill it.

and for Stew. I understand your view, and I respect your opinion sir. But 80k into the RX8, it's a passion. It's not to impress other people, it's not to catch attention, it's for me to have something I love, and something I enjoy doing. Besides that with the R&D that Ray is doing we can learn from his trials and errors and help out the RX8 community. That's another of my concerns, being able to spend the money to do the development so other people can modify their 8 without the huge costs to them. So as long as I'm happy with the end result, and I can help out other people with their ideas and dreams, then the 80k that I'm dumping into my car is worth every penny. Just my opinion.

Again I want to mention that we are trying for 600 rwhp, hopefully we'll be able to attain it. Of course I will keep everyone posted, and everyone, thank you for the support.

C.J.

P.S. Stew there's no need for you to appologize, you were stating your opinion and any and all opinions are welcomed.

Well then! Consider me in the corner of the shop, sitting on a virtual stool, drinking a virtual beer, and enjoying watching your progress. :D

Sorry I treated you like some of the ricer idiots around here who think that adding a faux-carbon fiber hood will add huge value to their cars.

Have fun! Should be a helluva project, and you've clearly got both the right attitude and the means to have at it.

Best,

Stew

Custom machined rotors? Yikes! How about the eccentric shaft, will that need replacing? Custom-machined bits like this are what's going to eat up his budget. That plus the labor. Good luck though.

Eightman, you're exactly what all of us have been waiting for, and if you're willing to spend the money required to do this then my hat is off to you. Not only are you doing something for yourself, you're doing something for all of the rest of the people on this forum by being a pioneer of sorts.

Best of luck

With the 20b suggestion, even though I agree that it will make the most power (if you can afford it) it doesn't do us any good, not a lot of people can afford a 3 rotor, now experimenting with the renesis will help a lot of us understand the capabilities as well as the possibilties that are out there with this engine. So I think eventhough it be making less power for the money like eightman said it can definetly show us what this motor can really accomplish which is worth a lot more to me than someone dropping in a 20b.

Good luck eightman, hope you don't suddenly vanish like people tend to around here. One more thing if you don't mind me asking what do you do for a living? Just curious

Well I'm currently an E-4 in the military, I make around 33k a year, but when I was younger my grandparents on my fathers side made some good sound investing on my behalf and it worked out in my favor. I'm very thankfull for what they have done for me, because it allows me to live out one of my dreams.

As far as what I plan on doing for a career. I'm going to head out to Houstan, Texas to attend UTI. It's an automotive school, on of the best around from what I've been told. After school, I'm actually talking to Ray about coming back to work for him at PFSupercars. If that doesn't work out, then I plan on working for a dealership, like Mazda, Infinity, Nissan, anyone of the many dealerships out there.

Now I noticed a question about the custom rotors, we're either going to be using rotors from another engine, or maybe CNC the stock rotors. The compression ratio I want to keep under the cover for the time being, just to protect Rays work, and I'm sure there is other people out there that are trying to achive the same goal I am and I don't want to give them any advantage yet. As far as the eccentric shaft goes I believe that can stay stock. We'll definitely have to see.

The reason I decided not to go with the 20b swap. Is 1. Acosta Motorsports has already been recognized for doing the 20b swap. 2. somebody already said it, the 20b swap wouldn't be useful to the Renesis guys. 3. I've always loved a good challenge.

Thanks for all the support guys, you have no idea how much it's appreciated to have all of you on my side. Update from the shop, well unfortunetly I don't have any thing to report at this time. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a little something.

2. Can u lend me $10,000 to help me with my supercharger project? :D

PS Blue with bronze wheels sounds nice to me. Just avoid ultra lary body kits plz!

no, we're sticking with just the 2 rotor Renesis engine. No I can't loan you 10,000 dollars lol. And who said blue with bronze? My 8 is Nordic Green Mica, and I'm doing bronze rims and some bronze airbrushing possibly. Here's a link to the body kit, wing and hood

yes I know, I know, it's a big wing, but with the power that I'm trying to put down the down force will be needed.

I absolutely love the kit, it's a very clean kit, and not too aggresive for my tastes. If any of you are interested in the kit, it's not too expensive. It's around 6k for the kit, unpainted, full payment is needed up front, there is no refund on the kit, and it's a direct shipment from Japan which will take about 3 months. Don't know how paitent most of you people are, but my 8 is going to be down for a couple of months so it doesn't really matter lol.

I dont know where i got the blue idea from, and good to hear you are sticking with 2 rotor renesis.

Have fun!

Welcome to Houston Man

We've got some sick FD's in our local club, but if you really plug this build off they will be bowing down to you for sure. Check the Gulf Section for our local events, we'd live to have you out there with or without the car.
