RX8 - Major Project
#102
Dude, I was up there on Wednesday and saw your car. Ray told me a few things, but your (and Ray's) secrets are safe with me! Once I saw your car, I knew who you were. You probably said the same thing when you saw my car! Yea, I know. I STILL haven't fixed the scrap on the passenger side door from my "drifting incident..." hahaha!
I'm cruisin' back up there tomorrow (Friday) and talk with Ray more about the highly anticipated Interceptor-X. I'll be up there quite a bit and will also check the progress of your project! Oh, and go with Bride racing seats!
See ya 'round!

Rotora brakes are crap? You must be outta your mind. Here's the stats
Rotora Big Brake Kit
6 piston calipers
13 inch rotors
slotted/cross drilled
335 x 32 mm
All I'm saying Ryan, is that I've never had a problem with Rotora before. I'll be getting a set for my FC as well, when the next year rolls around. And can ya guess what's going on my FD? yep, you guess it Rotora's.
Your suggestion for the Guru transmission is a great idea, but 2 things. First the gears in the Guru tranny are straight cut, and will be noisy as hell. Second why spend 2500$ on a dog box unit? When the FD guys build 500, 550, 600 hp RX7's and you don't hear about them using dog boxes. As a matter of fact, most of them get away with a light weight fly wheel, and an good clutch. Or at least the FD owners I know of.
The place I ordered my parts from Bulletproof Automotive drop ships everything from Japan. So it'll take 2 to 3 months to get everything. I've worked with them once before and they are very helpful, and very accurate on how long things will take. I think the first time they were off by 2 days.
I'm not disagreeing with anyone here, just stating my opinion. Anyways I'm out of here to take a nap. I'll talk to every one later, take care all.

Well, except for my opinion about ricey - ricey to me is Vertical Doors, Neon, and way more gauges than you need with a big Tach thrown in for good measure. But I guess that's what you gotta do since it's also going to be a show car.
Rotora stuff is NOT engineered for hard road course use, period. Lots of people use them and have no problems, but very few who take them to a road course report the same satisfaction. We could start a whole discussion about that, but it all comes down to what you want to do with your car. If you just like them, and think they look good, and that's enough for you, go for it. But they can't touch other stuff on the market from Endless, Brembo Gran Turismo, or even Stoptech as far as performance.
FD tranny's are NOT reliable over 400 wheel hp, and certainly not at 500 and 600hp. And neither is a single disc clutch. Again, it all depends on what you're going to be doing with the car. If you're never going to put drag radials or slicks onto the car, you'll 'probably' be fine with a stock FD tranny and single disc clutch. But if you do, and are making over 400 hp, with proper hard launches, you will experience failures.
You said you want 600 hp, you think you're going to make that with anything smaller than a GT42R? You're kidding yourself if you think so ... certainly no T04 is going to make that power on a rotary, especially a Renesis with it's somewhat less optimum for turbo exhaust ports.

the best company for brakes is AP racing!! and then Brembo is real good too...
also AP racing owns Endless, which makes this company just amazing!! No1 in the Japan Gran Touring Championship
also, Amemiya personally recomended these two companies to a friend of mine

To answer the transmission question first. We are going to put it back on the dyno to see if there's any difference what so ever. The stock RX8 with RX8 tranny was 184 rwhp, 136 ft lbs of torq. So I'm interested to see what happens. As far as the vertical doors, and neons go. I haven't ordered them yet. I'm still waiting to hear back from my Sponsor rep. Then when it comes to the gauges I can take a look at it and see how it will look, and then if I decide not to go with it I can keep it out and sell it to someone else.
Now the brakes, I was actually thinking stoptechs as well. I do like the look of the Rotora's compared to the Stoptech, so I guess it was just personal prefrence. Besides that the company I'm going thru for the Rotora brakes don't have them in stock, so I'll probably end up going with stoptechs. Oh, and as far as the tranny goes, I know a stock clutch and flywheel won't hold that kind of power. I'm talking the gearing, besides a dog box is way too noisy for my taste. I didn't say you didn't know what you were talking about Ryan, I guess it's just a difference in opinion, and what we've both experienced.
Hey Drifter D, yeah it's some pretty interesting stuff what Ray has mentioned he wants to try. Why don't we try to get together next Thursday and go up together. I have a buddy with a 350 Z that's going up. He works until 12 noon, and then we'll be going up around 2 I'm guessing. Besides that I have to take a few things up to Ray. So I'll be going up regardless of wether my buddy goes or not. Anyways people, take care and of course as always I'll update when I find something out. Take care everybody.

It was my understanding that most of the air to the radiator doesn't come through the front grille, so I'm not sure that putting a basic front mount ic is that detrimental.

I'm just recalling what I read in another thread a while back. It confused me, too. Something about how the routing for that air was substantially sourced from somewhere else. But I really don't know if that's true or not.
Maybe someone who's looked into this could weigh in.

Okay well it's sunday, and I'm completely bored outta my mind. I went and picked up my carbon fiber fenders, and carbon fiber trunk. Also went out and picked up header wrap, so we can go ahead and wrap the headers once we get them finished. I'm heading up to Rays on Thursday, to install the fenders and trunk lid.
Okay, ROADTRIP THURSDAYS TO PFSUPERCARS. Anyone that is insterested in going to PFSupercars on Thursday, Sept 29th 2005. We can meet up at the Mcdonalds in Glen Burnie. If you don't which Mcdonalds it is, it's the Mcdonald's that right next to Checkers on Ritchie Highway. We will be leaving at 2pm SHARP. So if you call at 2:00:01, you'll be late and we'll be gone. A couple of my friends are all going, but I figured this would be a good oppertunity for some rotory people to get together and go check out Ray and his work. It is about an hour long trip each way, but it's all open highway once we get onto 70. So anyone that wants to go, just start up a list right here.
1. Eightman1977 - in the rental (going to buy new FD, and check out the FE and what progress has been made)
On a good note though, we think the transmission maybe be compeletly mached up and opperational next time I get back up there. Of course I'll provide any information that we find.

just wanna say thanks again for keeping us up to date with your progress Eightman1977.
i know jack-all about the mechanics about the car, except that every day is like christmas, but thanks for putting up with the doubters/ armchair car-builders. i'm sure they're trying to help more than anything else though.
i'm sure there are TONNES of us wanting to be kept in the loop. and i'm just surprised that you're doing it! thanks!!!!

during the time i posted that, it was still undecided on what turbo to use with eightmans kit. there was also a lot of speculation on weather the renesis can even hit 600whp (which equals about 730 crank hp after 18% drive terain loss). i was simply trying to find out what turbo was needed to reach those goals, if indeed they can be reached, by working the math backwards. the gt35r was a refrence to the guys in pr because they are attaining pretty high hp numbers with what is considered to be large mid-sized turbo. there are turbos way bigger then that out there so there is hope for 550-600whp. (for a limited amount of time anyway).
what is there not to get?

1 for each rotor? The headers and space down there is tight on the 8. Not like a v6 where you have dual headers and can accomodate one for each side. How would you fit a turbo for each rotor?

Hey Ghost, thanks for the input. I really didn't have a whole lot of doubt that 550-600 RWHP would be attenable. It's just a matter of how long will it hold together. Although if I'm just driving it around, I'll probably set the boost to something like 10psi and just cruise. That way it causes less wear and tear, then say 20psi. So the question is now how long will it last lol.
Anyways I'm heading up to Rays shop tomorrow. So far I've got my Carbon Fiber Fenders, Trunk Lid, Defi Gauges w/ the Link II System, header wrap, and my Tein Hood Dampers. So I have a little bit of work to do myself tomorrow. I'm going to try and get the fenders and trunk lid on tomorrow and try to snap off some pictures, but we'll see what time I get up there and how long it'll take. So everyone I should have some kind of update tomorrow, depending on what else has been done to the car. I doubt it'll be much, because I just sold my 3rd gen RX7, and bought a new one from Ray that he's putting a ported motor in. So the new 3rd gen I'm buying has priority over the RX8 right now, cause I need a daily driver.

P.S. Still haven't decided on the turbo yet, but Ray is currently weighing the options.
