Nice kit but how about you drop the price to 4k with EMS and we will talk.

^^^
LOL, I priced out parts to do my own custom turbo kit and the material alone was more than $4,000.

^ I priced out a custom turbo kit and I got all parts for $2000 plus Int-X ($1500) so only $3500 total. Talk to a forum member here, rotorrocks, he did a custom remote turbo for under $1400 in parts plus Int-X.

No one capable of doing mandrel bends here so I have to buy individual bends and get them put together so my pipe costs are high. Additionally I took into account shipping costs (I'm in Hawaii) for the various pieces.

The easiest way I've found making bends is ordering circles of pipe and cutting them into the radius you need, then welding together. It's how I make custom exhaust for motorcycles without a mandrel bender. Works easy
I just don't want to ruin my $28,000 car, especially while it's still under warranty! I've toyed with buying a used '88 or newer Honda CRX and building it up with a custom turbo kit. But I've priced it at over $10k for materials (including the car), so that isn't the best option, because for the same I can buy a proven turbo kit from SFR for my RX8.

Are there any 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for this kit yet?

Sorry that I'm going a little OT here, but... when you priced out a custom turbo kit, where did you find a manifold? When I first joined the forum, I asked this question and pretty much got flamed.

Word.

Rom,

That place henderson performance in NB does custom manifolds and headers for high end cars and he said he has done them for RX7's so I am sure he could do it but it will probably be a little pricey.

I was factoring making my own. If you can't/don't feel comfortable doing that, then you can do a remote turbo like rotorrocks did. You might be able to contact SFR or Mazsport and ask if you can purchase one of their turbo manifolds or goto a muffler shop or tuner shop and see if they can custom make you one.

What Rotorocks did is actually pretty badass, but I'm thinking of staying under the hood...

But I visit San Diego pretty often (every 3-4 months), and I'm actually trying to go there sometime next month. So I'm going to stop by SFR then and check them out.

Is it possible to get this setup through emissions? I have to deal with an OBD check, no visual. I assume that with no CEL I'd get through ok?

The Tial 46mm WG is $475 retail. The Turbonetics turbo is about $900-1000 retail. That is about $1500 for just two components. You can get knock off wastegates and chinese turbos on Ebay but we cannot do that and sell the kit and then give a warranty. Most of that stuff is junk and does not survive for long periods of time.

Plumbing is always the PITA of any turbo...hence my interest in the PTP kit...they will sell me the plumbing and I can screw the rest myself...now they got my attention...but if I blow it up...its my own fault...

This is much prettier and they basically have done all the work for you...if you got the money this is one of the easier ways to go...me personally I like learning the in's/out's and whatnot...ultimately in the long run it might bite me in the butt, but such is the world I tend to play in...and in this world...you gotta pay to play...

they do have a nice kit tho...

=)

+1 no, +7 at least for that!! labdad is right, we have virtually no motorsports shops around here, most everything that calls themselves such, sells rims and tires. they might do exhaust for you. EDIT: by "do exhaust" i mean put a catback on, not fab one up. and i can also vouch that shipping here BLOWS!!! i cant recall how many times i have purchased items and spent as much on shipping as i did on the item itself. for example, the ZEnclosures box i got, was $90 or so to ship here cheapest option, and BARELY made size/weight requirement before it got bumped up to like $150 shipping.

btw labdad, nice to see you and some of the other guys on here as well as www.irxhawaii.com

oh and labdad, PM me, i think i might know ONE place where you can get mandrel bends, as well as some other work like that done. this same place USED to have a guy who had good experience porting rx7's among other things but alas, he went the way of the Meth..... straight to jail. unfortunately as far as i have heard, he was the last true rotor head on the island

if thats not free advertising, i dont know what is

I would love to know whether this kit is available for the A/T and whether it would be anywhere near 300whp when tuned, if it does then I would go by SD and get it

bump on 0-60 or 1/4 times with 320 whp.

i know, i know... "buy a mustang".

It just means nothing to me if someone tells me their autox times or best lap results at XX XX track.

Id like a little bit of real world info that would help me understand what a 320 whp 8 feels like.

Given the weight of the RX-8, 320whp is probably mid 12s in the 1/4 mile.

Of course, the RX-8's suspension isn't really apt for this type of performance and you'd find out better when that 320whp RX-8 pulls away from an EVO or MustangGT down the front straight at Road America, or such.
