single vs dual exhaust in TURBO APPs.
sorry to bring up the topic, but i remembered last time there is a thread regarding this comparison, but i couldn't find it.
i just wanna know people 's experience, i have mazsport turbo, but trying to find out if single exhaust is much better than dual BORLA exhaust? of course both with straight pipe. if any body have an idea, please share.......
thank you

i know it's a topic that has been discussed i believe, but i couldn't find it.
i just wonder little bit because as we know that people talk about exhaust when they are NA, but what happen when it's turbo....is single better? because our car is not true dual any way, but in logical thinking that dual exit has better breathing than single exit, but still we don't know ...i like to find out people logical thinking or experience

I'm pretty sure Jason (Mysql) swapped a TurboXS full exhaust system (cat pipe and muffler) and picked up power over his other many exhaust kits he had.
Back pressure is enemy of turbos, you want as little as possible behind the turbo (the turbine wheel and housing causes enough) so ideally a full 3" system (or larger) with no cat will produce the most power.
But honestly switching aftermarket mufflers probably won't yield that much power- you're really splitting hairs.

I was thinking , does the dual exhaust have more cross sectional area in comparison to the single? Due to having two pipes? Does anyone know the "flow limits", As to when the 3" exhaust should be replaced with a bigger size? Just out of curiosity...
Ahh , teamrx8 pretty much answered my question. Thx

Would the Mazdaspeed exhaust compliment a turbo at all or is that just basically like running stock?? I will prolly be running a dual resonated mid pipe most of the year (until I need to get inspected for emissions) so Ill have good flow there, I just dont want a loud obnoxious exhaust. If its a difference of 5hp between the MS and a loud one, Ill take the MS. Just wondering if it would help the turbo at all over stock.

ok, what i can see from dual, it's straight pipe from midpipe, and it's splitted into two exits ( most of it are greddy, MS, etc), but borla, it's inside the tube, adn it's splitted inside. as we can see and think logiccally, that dual exit will yield to more flow in the end. now, let see the single, it doesn't have a lot of bends, it straigt up to the back, but it has one hole , THE BIG ONE TOO...LOL....but where we can see here, the bends of teh pipe toward the end of teh exhaust. single exhaust has less bend, so it looks like a straight pipe start from midpipe to to catback. but with dual exits, it has several bends that can hold little pressure.
we talk about all exhaust have the same size (3").
it's just my thought, because i keep thinking about it, and i am planning to try the single exhaust, but before i spend my money, i like to do research first

It all depends on ur back pressure before the muffler...if everything is open up from theturbo to the muffler then a little extra like splitting to duals would b ok...but if u still have like stock cats etc etc...i would try to open it up anyway possible...
all in all i would just try to open up the exhaust as much as possible..
