Starting w/ Greddy

I was jw how many of you greddy turbo'd ones out there have ever experienced starting issues with the kit and what was done to correct them. Was it BOV related, spark plugs, or just bad starters in general?? My car fires up, but sum of the time it takes way longer than normal and requires several tries. It runs like a champ w/ no afr issues whatsoever (except sumtimes idles rich), but cranking it up can be a hastle. Anyone experience anything like this??

Not really, just depends which dealer you go to. I got the new starter under warranty and I also have the Greddy turbo.
The starter made a big difference, cranks right up now.

I would agree that the variance in the time it takes to start is much greater now than before. Occasionally, it will crack for an extra second or so, but most of the time it is no different than before. I was thinking fouled plugs (I havent gotten around to change them yet.)

Try and get the starter fixed, they change the plugs when they do it also.

Adrian, I may be getting lukcy like u and get it under warranty. I mean, sure the turbo voids the powertrain warranty, but the starter is a starter, and mine is an 04 so I woulda had this problem most likely regardless of the turbo. Plus, my dad is friends w/ the owner of the dealership so that may play into it.

Replace starter/battery with the redesigned units, problem solved. Seriously, the difference is like night and day--even the sound it makes on startup. For the record, I had the same starting irritations too, even though I'm bone stock and live in a warm climate...so don't let them blow smoke up your butt and tell you that the problem is caused by your turbo. I mean it's not like you're producing any boost at 500 RPM's or whatever, right? The starter shouldn't be doing any additional work compared to stock.

Just brought my car in today for the new starter. Service advisor looked at my car & kind've laughed, but didn't say anything about the warranty. Hopefully he won't present me with the bill after he does it. I was going through batteries like tic tacs.

Do you have to say some magic words to get the new starter?

Don't let them change your Leading Plugs. I didn't realize it at the time... but instead of replacing my 9s with 7s (which i was ok with), the new plugs they use are 6s.. way too hot for your setup.

I started getting detonation with my new plugs... and had to order a replacement set, and now have all 9s again

O really, well I'll tell them to leave mine alone then. But for real, my starter is gone. It takes me like a million tries to crank it up now and I've kick started it like 3 times today cus it wouldnt crank. I feel like it would have happened anyway w/ or w/o the turbo cus it is an 04. All I know is I need to get ahold of one soon.

yup, the 04s are a known problem... you shouldn't have any problem getting it replaced at the dealer a long with a new battery.

Yep, mine is an 04' too. Just got word back from my advisor, they changed out my starter motor, saw that I had an aftermarket battery & aftermarket plugs, so they didn't change them out. I'm cool with that as my plugs are 1 heat range colder than the regular plugs, so I would have had to get another set anyways. Worked out really well for me.

BTW, be careful. When I first went there they quoted me a price on the starter motor alone, but then found the "fix kit" (battery, starter, & plugs) as another single part #.

Because my car is so modified I was leery of bringing it in, so I was just thinking if the starter motor was going to be like $200 I might just buy it & have my mechanic install it, but the parts department quoted me like $500, then he was like "wait a minute, they have a TSB for that." He looked on the computer and told me that it was strange but they had another part # tha was the starter, battery & plugs and it was $450. We looked at each other, and he said he didn't understand that either. Then another guy in the parts department told me to just bring the car in & they would do it under warranty. I brought it in today, and they did what I said above.

Great, I'm glad to hear that, b/c I had to kickstart mine like 3 times yesterday after trying to start it countless times. It cranked first try this morning after about 5 seconds, and then when we cut it it wouldn't crank again, but at least it's at the dealer now. Jw, did ur dealer have it instock or did they order it?

I forgot to say, the recall or TSB or whatever isn't just a starter...it's a battery and spark plugs too. If you're turbo'd then you might want to tell them to leave the plugs alone (or does the greddy kit even come with different plugs?)
