Just saw the show and man the install is very clean and I'll bet I can make very stealthy on the RX8. It's definitely my number 1 option for FI. They did the Camaro kit on Two Man and A Garage. They dynoed it at around 100 hp with 120 ft-lb increase at 5psi of boost without dyno tuning the ECU. The graph also showed virtually no lag because the hp increased basically started at ~2200 rpm.

That's pretty nice. I saw a dyno graph of an ls1 with this kit somewhere a couple of months ago, and with no ecu tuning it put up similar numbers. The air/fuel ratio on it was in the mid 10s low 11s. They also said that the intake temp was 110F (ambient was in the 60s i think), pretty good for no intercooler.

Hey guys just wanted to chime in with some numbers. I lurk over on the GTO forums as well and I saw that a GTO with an STS turbo ran an 11.7 @ 119 MPH. Quite an improvement of the 13.6-7 of the stock car. I believe this car is running a bit more boost than the kit's 5 pounds... I think it's up to 7 or 8 pounds.

This is a link to the site where he talks about the 11.7 run.

This is a video of him running an 11.88 I believe, which was not his best run of the day.

I would say this is a promising kit for the 8.... call these guys and let them know you want em'!! I wanna see what this thing can do on an 8.

Emailed them twice. Even if they don't have a RX-8 custom kit, I'll take a universal and use my CZ/eManage to tune the fuel map and ignition.

The thing that worries me with this turbo kit is the location of the air filter. While it might be OK for running at a track, I think it will pose major problems when it downpours on the highway.....

Unless it gets submerged (up to your door) then I dont think it would really be an issue. Sure, some water would splash up around there, but the filter should be built to endure some of that. Dont forget, when it rains, the humidity level is 100%. Your filter seems to be quite ok with bringing a little bit of water vapor into it. Worse comes to worse, fab a piece of sheet metal to brush away water from the intake.

What type of turbo is on the Greddy kit? It's cheaper than any of the STS kits, and it comes with a conventional intercooler and exhaust headers which the STS doesn't require. I'm just curious on the price difference....$3200 vs. $3500+, right?

Greddy uses a T618Z, the only thing I know about this turbo is that it is fairly small, can't seem to find anything else about it. As far as the intake getting wet: If I were using the STS kit, i'd probably use a can around the filter (kind of like the one on the SR Intake) and use a pipe with an exhaust tip on it to take a suction from the rear of the car, and route the exhaust out the other side. Mainly to keep the rear look balanced.

What I'd also like to know is since this is designed for higher boost does that logicaly mean it is more reliable at low boost than the Greddy which cannot handle high boost?

WOW, you guys really took off on this...I lost track of this post a LONG time ago.

Philodox is almost done with his Turbo install
STS Seems to be able to provide a VERY good turbo (tell them people TELL THEM)
The Ausssie's are playing around with 360HP RX8's

The day of the RX8 is comming....comming, ha ha ha ha ha.....

I'm so glad that I actually have one now so MAYBE in the future I can somehow convince my wife that "I need" a SC/Turbo....so my fellow RX8 Turbo friends don't make fun of me at 238HP...LOL

We all need them to know that us RX8 people are really interested in their product.

This is my question with all of this, I HAVE NO EXPERIANCE WITH TURBO/SC...installation, maintenance, etc....who will be my guide?

www.rx8club.com

We want to make sure that you keep up the good work and let you know that we are VERY interested in your turbo kit for our RX8's.

Please visit the site, become a member "vendor" and help us understand your system a little better."

I hope they visit...

Dang...that sucks!

They told me some time this year....not in 2006, well...NEXT! Greddy already has a turbo but I guess they don't want to mess with a rotary yet.

Your right it does suck, and they do feel the rotary is a complicated engine and might be concerned about proper tuning for this engine.. Oh well there are other vendors almost ready to hit the market anyway.....

We need to hop on their butts and show a peaked interest in this. I, for one, feel that with proper R&D, this may well be the best turbo kit for the 8. As it is, the rene is fairly hot under that hood. This would also give us a reason to port that exhaust out and help increase flow a little bit... thus adding to the power of the 8. A high flow cat surely couldnt hurt as well, assuming the heat gain from the exhaust is not parasitic to the flow.

Yes, there are cons and concerns about putting a turbo after the exhaust. But I for one would be willing to donate my car for a test on this system. Remember, the more kits that come out, the lower the price will be and the better selection we will have to find a FI system that suits our needs. All we have to do is show them there IS a market.

one of the most significant questions about this system remains unanswered. how would you route the compressed air back to the engine bay in the RX8.?

Cut a hole in the trunk floor and run it back through the passenger compartment as an armrest!

When RG and I pulled my airbox out I was thinking that very question, there would need to be some relocating of stuff b/c there isn't any clear hole in the engine bay big enough for a pipe.

The truck applications prolly have no issues, b/c if you've ever looked in a truck engine bay, you can practically stand in there.

Now with the 8, we might have to relocate the battery, but I don't think its a huge issue. I will take some thought and experimentation. I hope somebody buys the universal kit and tries it out.

Hell, when my warranty is gone, I might try to build a custom turbo using the rear concept. I'm going to spend the next year learning the emanage and ECU first, which should make the custom setup easier.
