Super Charger At Pettit Racing??

i heard that there is a super charger being developed for the 8 right now. I think its an axial but im not sure. Just wondering if any1 has heard anything and if sum1 knows how it might compare with turbo charging.

theres two being developed. The axial one is from axial flow engineering. The pettit one is actually a twin screw s/c. The pettit one has been in development for a while. Do a search on supercharger, you'll find all the information you need about that vs. t/c. The only difference now is that a turbo is available but not a s/c so not a tough choice if your looking to purchase something now.

yea, im just thinking that since the renesis has such a linear power delivery the idea of a supercharger seems to make more sense, at least for the lower end rpms where i think the engine needs it.

Well, a small turbo can mimic the same effects. I.e the greddy kit kicks in pretty close to idle and all the way to the top.

Development time seems to keep on falling back on the Pettitt. I was supposed to come out right after Sevenstock last year. That was almost a year ago. Originally it was 35 hp gain for low boost kit, 50 hp gain for high boost kit. Don't know if that has changed since the hp gains on all the turbos seem to be so much greater. Hopefully they have figured out the fuel management. Had a Pettitt car in Motortrend & had several problems.

Pettit is pretty reputable, at least they didn't release the kit went it wasn't ready. I'm sure they got a lot on there plate, and juggling time with fixing/rebuilding other rotaries and developing this supercharger. So this wait doesn't surprise me, as long as they get it right the first time.

i agree, i think its better that they release it whenever it's ready. But i also remember hearing about the pettit car doing worse in several categories opposed to the stock 8 when motor trend compared the 2, so i hear ya on that Fanman.

Pettit addressed that Motor Trend article on their site. Essentially calling the test driver a retard and chastising MT for damaging their car in multiple ways and then writing an article full of incorrect information (prices were totally wrong, the car they claimed had $2000 brake kit on it was using stock brakes (DUH)) without even mentioning the fact that they caused some significant damage to the car and that it was still a prototype undergoing tuning which they had agreed to do. Pettit never would have given them the car if MT had told them the article would have been written as if the car they drove was the final product.

I spoke to Pettit last week. The hardware has been done for some time but the engine management was the issue. Unichip has been late getting them a piggyback but according to Candy it was going to be delivered and installed this week.

They have been running the kit with an emanage to test the durabiliy of the engine, and after about 20K miles they tore the engine down and have no issues with wear. I think you can buy the hardware if you want to tune it yourself with an emanage, but some people have not had good luck with the emanage ala Greddy Turbo, so they are waiting for the unichip so they can offer a complete bolton kit.

expect the price to be in the $4500 range for the full kit including a air/water IC and the unichip piggy back. The boost level is going to depend how big a pully you want to run, bu the cost difference is negligible since they are going to offer the IC with the low boost kit.

thanks man. wish the $4500 price was a lil less like the greddy kit though, that would be sweet.

$1300 more for a true(er) DIY kit with reliable fuel/ignition management is worth it.. With the GReddy you are more likely to pay more than $1300 for installation and tuning.

Abel Ibarra got to drive the SCRX8 of Pettits down at Sevenstock last year. He got out of the car with a big grin on his face. That was back when it only had 5K on the prototype.

Will the whp target number be 50 or has it gone up?

I hope they are aiming to stay competitive and they have upped the number, but I guess only time will tell. Call them up!

Yea, more than 50 would definitely be cool, but as the hp goes up I'd expect the price to do the same.
