To Those With Turbos

What kind of tires (brand, width/aspect ratio/diameter) are you running

What traction problems are you encountering with DSC on, off, and totally disengaged (hold DSC button for 8 seconds).

ALSO - Any clutch / transmission issues yet?

All responses are appreciated, thank you in advance.

Well, if you also included nitrous in the query I have all kinds of info for you.

Alright, Nitrous Too!

In fact, anything beyond stock.

I'm laying waste to my tires in stock trim with the DSC on between the 1-2 shift, so I'm curious what other people with actual power are doing, and how its affecting their handling and steering feel.

I have 235/35/19 up front (on Stern 8.5") & 265/30/19 in back (on Stern 9.5"). Person who I bought the rims from told me he has done quite a few RX8's & if I have dropped the car at all I should not go to 275's as I will rub unless I roll the fenders.

No problems with stock tranny, although I have had my turbo for only a few days now.

Yeah, but cretinx wants to know how well it hooks up with those tires. I know my tires are not only wider at 255 but also 1" taller than stock with a 45 ratio and I still don't get traction, or anything like it, in first gear. I have almost eliminated the break going into second but not quite. My guess would be that the secret to getting traction on the launch would be to move ballast to the rear and re-align the rear end for the drags instead of the courses. Maybe a set of drag radials will be enough for the weekenders like us.

Thanks Charles, that's good to know. I was looking for that info also. I want to improve traction for my eventual turbo kit, but wanted to ensure that the weight increase was kept at a minimum.

I forgot to mention that the turn-in feel was dramatically reduced so I'll be using these tires for stretching the driving season. As soon as the weather breaks I will be getting some really nice wheels and tires.

Thinking of 245/40/18 front 285/35/18 rears . . . . should be exact same size (actually a little smaller) than stock diameter, not sure about the rubbing, but I'll let ya'll know.

As far as turn in, yeah, I expect a good deal more understeer, but that can be cured with jucidious use of the throttle.

It is too cold here to be scientific about grip on "performance" tires. I'm sliding all over the place, even on modest throttle application.
I can down shift to 3rd and light 'em up pretty easily. The TCS/DSC lights up on most turns.

I'll let you know in the summer.

Nitto 245/35r19 out back.

Jeff, how do you like those Nittos? I keep getting conflicting reports about them, assuming you're using the 555's. I would like to know if they are capable of performing predictable and well on both street and track. I also can't decide between using a 40-18 or 35-19. What do you think? Thanks.

I like them well enough.
They are well-wearing, which is a fair trade for traction. They are not the stickiest of tires, but that is not a concern for normal street driving.

I got the Toyo T1S. I like the fact that the treadwear is 280, & the traction is way better than the RE 040's. I understand that the new T1R's & Falken Azenis 615's are coming out but I can't wait another 6 months, especially for 19" sizes.

The new 615's are like freaking r compounds.

Can't wait till they're out.

If your rolling in the dough...just go with some Toyo RA-1's on some 17's.

My blizX's work pretty good for the stupid snowy conditions we have here in chicago... I hated the stock tires, i plan on going with slicks for the track straight up. I have a friend hooking me up w/ them so i dont really know the size that i am going w/.
