A thought on cooling
OK here is my question. Does the turbo have an oil line in and a return? I’m asking because I have never really worked on a turbo but I’m just using common sense here so bear with me. OK? Ok. I live in the dang desert the car gets plenty hot in the NA form it is now so I’m looking to bring the temps down in the car after the UPS guy gets my turbo here. The way I want to try approaching, this is by using what I learned from Rock crawling vehicles in the desert. What does a 29K mostly tube and rubber ugly Jeep that can walk up walls have in common with my little 8..you guessed it heat…. The rock crawlers operate in very low gears at high RPMs under extreme loads with little or no airflow other that the fan. You have to figure out how to bring temps down and still be light weight and uber reliable (it would suck to have a core or line burst when you are at near 90 degree angle and spit oil all over your tires). What would be the benefit ( if any) of installing an inline oil cooler either before or after the turbo? Or use something like this and do both? What about adding one to the RXs oil cooling system? There are several places this could be done. The cars frame can be used as a heat sink. An in line oil cooler can make a hell of a difference, for example my power steering oil used to boil at times depending on the trail. I added one of these from these guys and no more problems. We also used thin aluminum plates to combat radiated heat. Copper plates to make heat sinks blah blah blah.. I also used water wetter that stuff is awesome. Any ideas input or am I just of on left field on this one.
