Turbo and Check Engine Light
Ok this may be a dumb question but I dont know the answer. I am going to install the greddy turbo and im just wondering what I do if the CEL comes on. Because the dealership wont check it buz the warrenty is voided so what do you do. take it in and pay them whatever rediculous amount they will charge or is there another way or somewhere else to go that has a computer that could tell you whats wrong. Thanks

Just be sure to take to an experienced mechanic to install it, who will also be willing to spend as much time needed to troubleshoot. Make sure they definately have a scan tool that can interface with the vehicle's OBDII connector (that's probably what your talking about as far as interfacing with the computer). Best resource that me and my mechanic have found is right here at rx8club.com.
I lucked out with my turbo install as nobody here in Tulsa, that I know of, had done it yet. I found an airplane mechanic at a major airline here, who has a passion for rotary enige cars as well. He has a fully equiped shop and does performance work in his off hours. With this guy, I don't feel that I ever need to go back to the dealership again to fix any CEL problems (good thing too, as they'd probably laugh).
Good luck,
-Darin

I vote for going to a regular rotary mechanic.
Dealerships are trained to work on the stock car. Most issues they simply remove whatever you've added and replace with stock parts (e.g; idle issue due to K&N filter).
Your dealership might be better than this, but I wouldn't count on it.

I just called Benny at GReddy regarding the fix for the e-Manage and check engine light. According to Benny; you will have to go back to the origin of purchase of the kit. If the vendor was not a direct distributor the vendor will contact the distributor on your behalf. A form will be filled out and submitted and supposedly the authorized GReddy dealer will either give you the fix or perform the mod there (this sounded vague). There are no exceptions...

Broke_Apex_Seal, what update is that? Is that a hardware or software update?I'm asking because I should be getting my e-manage support tool software and cable in, today or tomorrow, to load MazdaManiac's latest map. I'd like to have it whatever it is!
Thanks!
Regarding my CEL, we disconnected and reconnected the battery and it hasn't come on since (counting the hours though :o ).

in answer to the OP- get a canscan/hymee scanalyse or anotehr tool like them that can read the codes. or make sure your mechanic has one. then you can see what the cel is and have a rough idea what is going on. from that you can decide whether it is something your mecanic can take care of or if it is something Mazda has to do thru pcm programming. you may have to pay for work at teh dealer but that's the game you are playing adding a turbo to your car.

well your in jeff's territory now. but your telling me no codes can be read or just that your code cant be read. someone with a canscan and a turbo go out and loosen their gas cap. then start shut down and start the car to triger the evap test failure code. now try to read the code and tell me if you can or not.

The first time I tripped a CEL with the Turbo installed, we tried connecting with a scan tool and got a "Link" error. My mechanic was talking about disconnecting the e-manage and then trying to link. Not sure if he ever tried it, but the CEL is gone now.

So basically you have to call GReddy and they'll fix it ?

Only ones I know of are the Harrison R&D one, Hymee ScanAnalyzer, and of course the Mazda dealership one, also some other super expensive unit.

Sorry not sure what scan tool it was, I'll post it when I find out though. You're probably right about it's CAN ability.
Wierdest thing, when I'm on the highway, and I put the clutch in just to coast, it sometimes triggers the battery light (which goes off after I give her gas). I also sometimes stall while stopping after getting off the off ramp. No stalling while city driving though.
