Turbo Installed! Need a little help with the A/F Ratio gauge please!

Just installed the GReddy Turbo kit, and we're installing the gauges now (Boost and A/F Ratio).
Boost is installed, but I was hoping someone could tell me the best place to splice the A/F ratio gauge into?
Of course, I bought a Autometer SportComp A/F Ratio gauge, before I heard that they have a tendancy to bounce around . But was still hoping someone could tell me the most acurate place to tap into (O2 wire, e-mange...? )

I've already searched for about an hour now, come close, but haven't hit the mark! Any help would be appreciated!

Now, onto first impressions:

I drove it with the Turbo for a few days, and I am so impressed with it! The only problem I seem to be experiencing is the CEL, which came on after about 50 miles. Oddly enough, I got rid of it for awhile after I filled up my tank! But the next time I started up, it was on again and is staying on from the moment I turn the key. No biggie though, my mechanic (who's awesome by the way) is looking into it.
I'll drive it alot harder as soon as the gauges get installed.

Take care!

A/f.......

I recommend you tap into the yellow wire from the SECONDARY O2 sensor.

The primary sensor is a wideband/current setup, which is useless for cheap dash-type gauges. If the yellow wire doesn't work with your gauge you are probably SOL.

Warranty

BTW, how much if any is left on your warranty?? Also, is the mechanic that's helping w/ the turbo at a Mazda service shop??
I was thinking also about install on the GReddy Turbo, but was concerned about the 25,000 mile remainder of my warranty.

demob05,

I only have a little over 15,000 miles ony my car, so I voided the engine warranty early :D . My mechanic doesn't work for Mazda, but he's a rotary expert. He's careful, meticulous, and is taking a passion to learn everything he can about the RX-8 to get this right (as there is probably not many, if anybody, in town who has intalled this turbo for our cars).

StealthTL,

If taping into that wire doesn't work, can you recomend a better A/F ratio gauge that will do what it's told .

Thanks,

-Darin

So does anyone else know if the Secondary O2 wire will work reasonably with the narrow band A/F guage?
Also, is there anyway to get this from the e-manage?

Thanks again!

Ciao,

Post A/f......

No criticism intended of the quality of your gauge, they all work on the same principle.

It is just that the primary sensor is a wide-band, so make sure you plug into the secondary.

In the four-wire plug, the Red is 12volt to the heater portion and White/Red is its ground. The sensor outputs to the computer (and your gauge) on Yellow, and the fourth wire is its ground.

If you want to splice in at the computer, the yellow A/F wire is almost 'dead centre' in the biggest of the white connectors on the ECU.

Thank you infinately StealthTL, we'll probably give it a try and see what happens. I'll post the results.
Oh man, I totally didn't take offense about my little gauge. I actually found a couple of accurate wideband O2 gauges: AEM and Innovative. Both were around $400 or more and I was thinking, "oh sh*t, dats an expensive gauge!" Maybe we'll get that later :-)

The AEM and the INNOVATE are probably your best bet to go....

Hooking into the Secondary O2 sensor seemed to do the trick. It appears to be pretty stable and give me a good general idea if I'm running rich or lean. Naturally if I want to know exactly where I'm at, I'll have to buy the wide band gauge.
I'm verry happy with the results though.

Thank you again StealthTL, I owe you a beer.

BTW: CEL light came off after disconnecting the battery. All of the dash light phenomenon is back to normal now actually.
