Turbo kit and CEL's

Turbo kit and CEL's
Im probably going to be getting a turbo later in the day today. It is the Greddy kit with the Int-X running it. Every turbo video I have ever seen always has the check engine light on. The guy that I am buying the kit from also said his CEL was on while the kit was on his car. Is it possible to tune the car without throwing lights? Most of my experience with tuning is with cars that come from the factory with forced induction. My problem is, is I live in Texas where we have yearly inspections and CEL light on is an automatic failure. I dont want to invest the money if I cant get the car to pass inspections. Thank you!

Hmmm.. that sucks. I wish HPTuners would work on an RX8. Thats what I have for all my GM cars and it actually reflashes the computer instead of piggy backing it. I guess I cant turbo my car.

Never seen a turbo RX-8 without a CEL? Then you've never seen one with an AccessPORT! I have no CELs on mine presently.
The Int-X throws CELs, it's nature, no way around it. You need an AccessPORT.

Does this give full access to the computer? Im used to running HPTuners which shows all the tables and graphs on a laptop and gives you full ability to change everything. Im really into tuning and just want the car to run good without doing it halfassed. I dont want a piggy back. I want full adjustability. Ive read the details about it and I just thought it was a piggyback. If Im wrong, I dont have to think about getting rid of the car anymore!

The software was released for custom tuning a few days ago but pulled due to some issues, but it will be back. But be careful, because tuning with the stock PCM is completely different than tuning with most aftermarket EMS', and rotaries don't like detonation.
The good news is if you buy your AP from MazdaManic you get turbo maps and you're ready to roll.

No, it's not a piggyback. The AP reflashes your stock PCM.

I'm pretty sure you can file for a plate refund at the serviceaz website and get most of the money back. I did that when I sold my motorcycle and got most of it back.
The maps are extensive for the Cobb, and work in some different ways. The motor doesn't see MAP or manifold pressure, so it works off calculated load, which requires recalibrating your brain a little.

Ill talk to MazdaManiac about getting the Cobb through him. We have 93 gas out here which is a whole new experince for me! If I were to take the car to a dyno shop, would they be able to dial it in or do I need to take MMs word for it and just upload the tune he sends me? IM just real **** and always want the car to be dialed in. I changed tunes on my other car everything 2 weeks to compensate for weather. Im weird.

There's no need to change the tune on the AP to compensate for weather- it does that for you just like the stock PCM does.
Most shops don't have the PRO Tuner software to tune the Cobb. You'll have to find a shop that does have the software so they can tune you. Isn't Steve Kan somewhere near near/in Austin?

You know what, I found a store like a month ago that was all Rotary in Austin and I havent found it since. I knew I should have book marked it. I missed out on the turbo I was looking at so Im still looking. As long as The Cobb can run it without CELs, Im all for turbo!!!
