Turbo Novice System Layout Thread
It's another n00b turbo thread from me! I've read the books and laid out my parts, but I'm still not totally sure where every line, hose, and hookup goes in what order on the RX-8. So to help visualize it, I've drawn up this:
Please bear with me, I know it's not pretty. It's turbo system layout as I best understand it, and I know a lot of parts are wrong. I hope someone will be willing to help correct it and fill in the gaps where the "?" prevails.
Vacuum hoses are red, and I've drawn them where I think they should go based on the threads and books I've perused.
Water lines are blue, and I'm not sure where the water comes from, whether the turbo needs its own reservoir or piggybacks off of the radiator reservoir.
Oil lines are black, and I don't know where the catch can goes or if the RX-8 needs the extra pump or not.
No electrical hookups are drawn. It's a pretty busy diagram already.
Who knows, if you guys are nice enough to help me get this sorted, it could make a nice sticky someday
Thanks for playing along.

Good thread. This is effecient education for anyone who considering to turbo charge. Pictures and diagrams explains more than....well a lot of words.

^ nice! But I worry those thin red couplers will slip off at high boost. Also with a vta bov you should definetly add the flames coming out of the exhaust

I like it, bigfire. What's that gray hose by the catch can line running to the top of the block? And is the oil pump for the turbo an add-on or a stock pump?
Also, Barksdale? Rough.

The oil catch can is in no way related to the oil system. It is to stop excessive oil from being pulled out of the "crankcase" as vapor and dumped into your intake by your vacuum lines. Unchecked this vapor condenses and adds up to a lot of oil all over your intake tubes, throttle body and intake manifold.
Also the only turbo setups that need an external oil pump are remote turbo setups(rear mount). For a standard turbo setup you simply tap into your pressurized oil system at the sensor or filter for the feed and run a gravity drain back to your pan.

Bump. I think this thread is too educating to be forgotten.
