NO!
I am saying 21.5 from the mating surface of the washer to the end of the plug.
YOU are saying I didn't do that.
I corrected you and said its just a parallax error.
I just laid the caliper down for the picture after taking that actual measurement.
So, I'm gonna have to shoot a video.
Which will be ignored.
And I will be accused of not helping anyone.
And then someone will ask about whether or not they need washers in an N/A application.
And so it will go on ad infinitum.

You however seem to take delight in trying to make people look like an *** and on this occasion i am one of your "targets" .
Thing is I know what I know and if I was unsure there is no way i would argue the point with you because you are a very knowledgeable person .
So rather than beat each other over the head you could actually acknowledge that perhaps there is an anomaly here that needs some analysis instead of doing your usual he's an idiot and I'm so clever routine .
I actually think i'll stick with the washers because it is a little too close for comfort to not use them .

I don't know where you are getting all this from, but the way I see it, its pretty basic.
Reread my posts.
If you see any good reason why I shouldn't "target" someone that is simply argumentative for the sake of being so, then point it out in a factual way.
Don't get emotional about it.

the thing is what we are talking about is pretty black and white . There are no maybes about it because it is a very simple measurement . I can assure you i have remeasured that f'n plug several times with two different vernier calipers and always get the same number which differs from what you get .
So how about opening yourself up to the possibility that there is some other explanation for this instead of going on the attack and assuming i don't know what i'm doing ...

So the original poster's (me) question was never fully addressed - four trailing plugs would be required, when?
And the plugs would be RX-7? I gots lottsa RX-8 trailers, can I haz 4 in?

THE PLUG DOESN'T MATTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get off it.
The hole is not deep enough either way!
The trailing hole has a "cupped" seat that is only 19mm deep.
If you have a plug that is 21.5mm or 20mm it doesn't matter!
It will bottom out.
Over 380 g/sec or so at sustained load.
Leading would be RX-7 trailing, trailing would be OE trailing unless you wanted to shim RX-7 trailing in that position.
OE trailing in the leading position won't work because they are too short and won't
present the spark far enough into the combustion chamber.

Your picture shows 21.3mm deep so where did the 19mm number came from ?
my figures
22.0 hole
20.4 plug
1.6mm clearance
your figures
21.3 hole
21.5 plug
0.2mm interferance
so yes the plug does matter ..... even if i used your figure for the hole depth the plug would still clear by 0.9mm ......... if 20.4 was the plug depth .

Has anyone actually tried to run the BUR9EQP in the leading and the stock ones in the trailing? You wouldnt need shims and the BUR9EQP run in the same heat range as the stock trailing. Am I wrong to think this way?

I bought 14 mm ID shims from mcmaster-carr in 1 mm and .5 mm thicknesses. They were like $6 for 50 of each ($12 for everything) or there abouts. Right now I run the same plugs as MM - 21.5mm reach - and don't shim the front and have the rear shimmed with a second crush washer. It's not precision but the plug tightens down fine. Should I develop some kind of severe OCD about my plugs, I can use the "precision" shim stock and put the ends dead on.
