OK just to kick things off ....

BUR9EQP (ala RX7) plugs + top quality leads + stock coils = good to 310whp (start breaking up at 320whp )

BUR9EQP (ala RX7) plugs + top quality leads + stock coils + a little extra dwell = good to 350whp +

and still going strong after 10000 NA and 45,000 boosted (@300+whp ) kms

That's real world - no theory , no BS

ok. only question i have right now is how often do you go through coils?

EDIT: also where are your coils located/mounted....(asking wrt to temperature)

I should also mention - lowered redline .

Because I think that is relevant .

How low is the redline?

Yes.

I tested the OE coils pretty extensively and even a small amount of additional dwell led to the coils getting very, very hot.

5% more (above 5500rpm only) + a lowered redline (8200 max.)= not an issue ..... possibly would become an issue for an extended track session (i've only done short 7-8 min stints )

I took them out the other day and had a look at the back of them . Minor white patches only , nothing like what i've seen from others on here .

Don't get me wrong , I'm not saying they are the answer , just reporting my results. But I don't believe luck played any part either .

I do remember you telling me ages ago that increasing the dwell on the stock coils was a waste of time - but at the time I had already done the experiment and found that it DID definately get rid of the breakup I was seeing so I thought i would just see what issues arose . That was 18 months ago , admittedly I have not been running at that power level (320+) all this time however .

You do understand that extending the dwell on the stock coils does not increase the charging, right?

No i don't know that .
What I do know is that I had an issue so I extended the dwell and the issue went away ....

Good start off.
I also believe in the lower redline and removing the coil pack off the engine.

On the oem dwell, stock plugs for street and the colder densos for track + high quality wires with correct connectors, wire separators , 7.5K redline with whoops redline to 8K on oem tach, coils grounded to chassis with solid wire--not the small pigtail, pettit coil relocation
I have ran:
1- mazsport---didnt work for me very well ---weak ignitor box
2-Yukons--- at the early developement stage-- I removed them because I wasnt sure about them at that time.
3- ls2's --until i upped my power level (365g/sec at 7K)
4- oem with the twin power--- for the past year --no break up, no misfires on multiple track events. but blew engine under a light load and THINK it was a misfire/bad gas cause.
This combo sure has a weak looking spark on cranking. And mu car fires trailing and leading on cranking.

Just purchsed a cobb--so I will up my dwell and run the ls 2's (not yukons) moroso wires/correct connectors and boots with stock plugs. Maybe I can run the rx7 plugs once i have a strong spark?

I cannot find any scope info on the twin power---just LOTS of testamonials.

this doesnt detract from your experiences, but didn't we all come to the conclusion long ago that the "white spots" were as much BS of an indication as the FSM test procedure is?

I'd still like to know where you have the coils mounted. Given that OEM dwell is already delivering all the juice they can muster; adding dwell, even 5%, shouldnt do anything but cook them

Quite correct that white spots are not indicative of coil condition . But perhaps still a good indicator as to how hot the coils have been .....

Stock location .

I'm very much a ' I believe what I see' kinda person so if what I see conflicts with what others are telling me and I have adequately verified what I saw/experienced then i'm going to believe it .

Sure . Please don't take this as an attempt to undermine your product in any way . I'm just reporting what I exerienced because it seemed relavent to the discussion.

What leads do you run ?

Also : have you been replacing them at regular intervals ?

Ray I agree that ignition stuff has been talked about a lot, but i since FI brings a different need to the table, maybe its worth some discussion?

Rote--it probably is but I cant do it --i dont have the hardware?

Magnecor, which some people here also seem to disapprove of

I installed a set of 10mm wires this year. Had a set of their 8mm wires for several years before that. I don't think anything is wrong with the 8mm set, just replaced them as a racing maintenance item and upgraded to the larger wires in the process. Understand that the last several years for me only equals one or two thousand miles, most of it WOT though.

ps: these comments don't mean I disapprove of other brands etc., just my personal choice

i did the same for the original OE coils several years ago. Again, just racing maintenance, nothing wrong with them. The current set are upgraded from the original 2005 coils that came on the car, but not the latest version. I have an extra set of the same OE coils that have very little use on them if anyone needs a set. They came with some other parts I bought a while ago. I don't currently use factory spark plugs, not that it should matter.

has anyone hardwired the ls2/yukon connector to our harness, or do most run the adaptor?
Advantages/disadvantages?
