zex wet nitrous kit. anything important to look for?

hey guys, im looking to buy a zex wet nitrous kit. but the problem is that i dont really want to mess with the installation myself due to my limited knowledge on this stuff. (it took me about 3 hours to change my stock intake box for the AEM cai.) but anyways, i was juss wondering if there is anything special i should know? yes i read a part about Charels thread on nitrous but i dont really want to read all those posts. and yes, i did search. so any help would be appreciated
thanks

Hmmm. Nitrous is nice because it can give you that extra hp at a greatly reduced cost. A wet kit is most certainly a better idea than a dry kit as you are compensating for the extra oxygen with extra fuel up front. What I'm less enthused with is the general inaccuracy of the apparatus. Nitrous is supplied by bottle pressure which can fluctuate between 900 and 1100 psi. A bottle heater will help iron some of that fluctuation out. Nitrous is supplied at a fixed rate compared to the engine which consumes air at an increasing rate. This is why nitrous shots are quantified by HP levels and not by more scalar gains. I should think a good nitrous setup would at minimun also involve an A/F gauge so you can keep an eye on how you are doing. You wouldn't want to be unknowingly running lean. Do nitrous combution temps run higher (more fuel burnt but not proportionally more system mass)? I should think so but I don't know for sure. I think significant power adders and mechanical modifications are best utilized by people who understand them on a fundamental level even if they are not the best of wrench turners. As such, read every and anything you can about what you want to do to your car and the possible risks it might add to. I think a 50 shot on a Rx-8 would be quite fun.

You are kidding right?
I am very serious. Read the Nitrous tread before you even attempt doing anything. A few encouragements you'll get here will not give you even an outline of the whole picture.

There is enough Nitrous resources in Charles's tread to write a book about Nitrous applications on RX8.
From technical tips on how to install it, Pictures, DIYs to how to run the car, how to Jet it properly what bottle pressures to run...

If you know that the tread exists, and still come here asking for help, and saying that you are too lazy to learn. You are asking us to give you a tap on the shoulder and encourage you into blowing your engine.

Read all you can, and then if you still have some constructive questions, ask them. And we'll be glad to help.

And don't get me wrong man. I am not flaming you. I am telling you this because what you are getting into is much more than it appears you can handle. And you seem to be lazy to do your homework too.
Installing Zex kit is very easy, even for a novice. I did it in 2 days without the knowledge of how to take off the airbox. You need to understand what it is you are installing there first though.

good luck

one quick question, i have heard stories from people saying that nitrous is bad for the engine. blah blah blah. i dont think im going to use it that much but when will the nitrous begin to damage the engine?

Nitrous damage happens mostly because of a lack of fuel (running lean). As long as you err on the side of caution on your daily driver you should be fine. Invisting in a real time A/F meter will ensure you stay safe.

Check all your fittings before running the N2O and fill with high octane and even add octane booster to the gas when you run it. Nitrous is really safe as long as the install is done well. If you take this install upon yoruself (and I encourage you to do so) you will know how to maintain the system yourself and how to repair any thing in the future rather than relying on some other mechanic.

It is not safe and it is at the same time.
FI is FI in any application. Whether it is a Turbo or Nitrous, the idea is to push more oxygen into your combustion chamber so you could burn more fuel.

If you put too much Oxygen, and not enough fuel, your engine will detonate. PERIOD.

As long as as you do not detonate, you are in good shape.
Again. Read the Nitrous tread. All this is discussed in depth in there.

I'd like to see if the cobb unit could allow you to create a map for use with nitrous. That'd be a great setup in my opinion. Do all the N/A mods and get a nice N/A map going. Then get a very nice nitrous system with all the bells and whistles (direct injection, fuel pressure regulated) and tune the ecu the right way for a decent size shot of nitrous. I just read an article about nitrous use in one of the tuner mags. Maybe import tuner? You may want to check it out

one tip.

I know you said you didnt want to read his thread all the way through. and I know some of the guys here say you should. (which you should)

but keep in mind you dont have to read the WHOLE thread. when I am looking for info in a big thread I just look for post by the person that knows what they are talking about. there is no sence in reading a hundred other post that say "wow man, good job. how much H.P. did you get?"

your really only interested in his post. and if needed you can read the post to which he would be replying to.... make sence? this should help you read all the important stuff in his thread in a timely matter.

I've read the entire nitrous thread more or less. It doesn't take that long. There are a lot of pictures and the OP (Charles) is the the one supplying most of the answers/info. As such, if you only read his posts on the matter, you could probably skip 2/3rds of the posts. He supplied a lot of pictures if I remember which are highly valuable. When you are working with a nice car with an expensive motor to replace if you pop it, you want to do everything you can in a well informed manner. Even if you are going to pay someone to install/tune it, you're still going to drive it, depend on it, and look after it. Besides, a well done nitrous install can have some aesthetic appeal as well.

you do not understand the concept of the kit goes way behind the cai... if you cant figure that out you are just going to blow your stuff up..

and when you do that all the typing in the world will not fix it..

good luck.

"Amateurs don't use nitrous oxide. I've seen how you drive. You've a heavy foot.
You'll blow yourself to pieces."

Seriously, you need do to a BUNCH of reading before getting into that stuff. The nozzle should go in the upper intake manifold. You'll need to drill into it.

Man I'm sure glad I read this. I'm interested to get this from Big Daddy but not sure I will do it.

I would love to watch and help if needed.

Cerritos is 95 miles North of downtown San Diego.

Charles, I have looked and the best price I have found is $565.99. Does that seem like a good price? Also, from what I can tell, I cannot get the 82021 kit without the bottle (I have a NX express bottle, bracket, opener, etc. that i wanted to use if I could).
