AT 4 Port, Base Greddy Kit
Hey Guys
I own a 04 model auto rx8
Im now looking for a FI possibility for my car.
Toss up between Greddy and Petite atm.
Now a question for the Greddy Kit, if i was to buy the base package (no MM upgrade, no rx7store upgrade)
Im not looking for sky high rocking power output, i just want the daily driver to have abit more grunt and still reliable.
I have done the research into the Greddy Kit, but every thread i stumble across (e.g Nuke's thread) All i see is that there are a million addons for the kit!
My question here is, if i was to buy the base package, Protuner (im located in aus), the necessities, Boost Gauge, Wideband Oxygen Sensor, Oil pressure, Blow off Valve and maybe boost controller.
Is this going to be a reliable setup? im not looking at tracking at the moment, nor becoming the local dyno queen (no offense to people chasing the high hps).
Looking at just a modest 6-8psi turbo.
Will this setup be reliable? taking into account a well tuned ecu?
Any help will be great!
Regards
Jason

I don't see why it would be be reliable. I had NO issues with mine when it was installed. Now it does appear that you have done your research, however with the Greddy turbo, it is manditory to use an oil restrictor. .039 - .042 would work fine. If no oil restrictor is used, the oil seal start leaking anywhere between 8 - 10k miles. (Sorry I didn't have time to convert this.)
A lot of the issues people had were in fact due to poor tune. Also it will be very had to achieve a stable tune with the MAF housing greddy decided to use in this setup. Other words POS !!
Rectify this issue with an AEM CAI for the 8.
The Greddy WG actuator is weak. it's designd to be full open at 7 psi. This will give about 5 psi in the instake manifold.
There are 3 options to get to open later:
1. Crank the sucker shut. (Brettus has a good thread on that)
2. A boost controller. (still dosen't address the weak spring)
3. Replace it with a better actuator that is around 10-11 lbs spring.
You will lose around 2 psi between the Turbo and the intake manifold.

I see thanks for that.
I have also Racing Beat intake, would that work with the Greddy to solve the Maf housing issue?
Also in terms of the WG actuator issue, would the BNR turbo upgrade solve this issue?
This is what you get with the BNR Supercars hybrid:
upgraded 360 thrust kit for ultra high boost applications
upgraded compressor wheel (58 lb/min)
custom machined Greddy compressor housing
clipped turbine wheel
ported wastegate
ported volute
Dynamic balanced to .5 gram/in2 or less
All new center housing rotating assembly
water cooled center housing
water cool kit
1 year warranty
Sorry for all the extra questions, im quite new to forced induction

Have you tuned an RX-8 with this before? More importantly, have you (or whoever is doing your tuning) tuned a 4-port auto RX-8 before?

4-port Automatic.
Does anyone know where i can the upgraded couplers and tbolts for the greddy kit?
I did a search and it shows you sell them on ur site MM, do you still only sell the coupler tbolt package?

Anyways on side of thigns
i just ordered:
Greddy Kit
Synapse BOV
AEM True Boost, Wideband, Oil Temp
AEM CAI
gonna look locally to get the actuator replaced on turbo as per 09factor's suggestion
Now.... where can i get that coupler tbolt kit >.<

hey tofu, I'm looking to hopefully turbo a 4port auto also, was the greddy kit the one you found to work the best over other turbo kits like esmeril etc.? or did you just decide on it over the petite?

You said your first priority was reliability - so forget about the bigger actuator and the boost controller . You can get 6-7psi reliable boost without either of those.
Keep the boost down low and your chances of staying reliable are good .
BHR sell a kit for that .

Well im actually in the final stages of deciding between knightsport supercharger or Greddy Turbo, trying to sort out a few kinks between the seller and myself.
Btw does anyone know where can you verify the turbo is authentic? the actual snail? with all the greddy writing on it? or is there specific documents to verify it?
Greddy seems to be reliable choice, and have wide support in the community,
Now if you see everyone's problem, where the greddy turbo runs out of breath around 7k rev, you'd see that actually matches with out rev limiter quite well.
I have tried removing the rev limiter, but past 8k rev i found there was really not much power gained, for the added stress on your transmission

that is exactly what I was wondering is how the difference in RPMs available between the MTs and ATs would effect how the turbos power would hit. If the greddy makes it to 7000 than that seems like a logical choice for our transmission. Are you going to be doing any work on the transmission to ensure a bulletproof install? How many miles does your car have on it now?
