6sp auto & scan guage
Any 6sp auto owners out there that also own a scan guage device? Long time back I read a thread that say a rotary provides better mpg at higher rpm range then lower (stop laughing please). Anyway, as we know our rotarys can spin at 2,000 rpm if left in auto mode going 40mph etc in 6th gear.
Though one would think mpg would be better the lower the rpm range (I would guess) would that hold true for a rotary engine as well?
Yes I know it is 'fun' to hold a gear and just drive in 2nd at 4 to 5k before up shifting but if one is just driving down the road with little in the way of curves I did wonder if keeping the rx8 in a certain rpm range increases in anyway what mpg the scan guage devices indicates the rotary is providing. Guessing it is must 18mpg no matter what one does but figured I would ask ones in the know.
I do know that bumping her up to 6,250 rpm is the perferred method of driving, at least once each road trip so all the ports open up to 'clean out' carbon build up....though to be honest I have not a clue how long one should hold/drive the car at that number.
thanks !
