CAI and Exhaust on AT

I talked to a friend of mine who seems to know a bit about cars. I told him i sometimes get beat by a friends MT celica gts. I told him it has a CAI and nothing else. He then responded and said that it was stupid for him to have JUST a CAI because it limits his peak power or something like that... i then said i was thinking of getting a CAI and he chuckled.

so:

stupid to get a CAI only on a car w/o an exhaust?

^No...

honestly it's hardly ever that someone can get more than 5whp from just an intake. HKS is good. I haven't really heard much about it's performance tho. I have read on here that people have reported back some mid range gains with the RB intake + Duct - and some high end help from the K&N V2 intake.

still your choice if you wanna spend $300+ for some noise and ~5whp. My friend put together my intake for a fraction of the price and it makes all the noise we want plus some minor gains...

You're not gonna get any noticeable gains with either/or. Why spend close to or over $1,000 just to gain 5 whp? These cars came maxed out from the factory. Not much will help you unless you go FI.

Decent headers/extractors & full exhaust system. US$1500+

HKS CAi kit. US$450+

HKS twin power IGN amplifier. US$600

Knightsports reprogrammed ECU. US$800+

Should net you a gain of around 20kw or more. (unsure on 19th century HP)

Pricey mods for such little gain, prices are estimations only.

Having said that, I've done the ECU + twin power to mine already............

IMHO the Mods are not worth the money. The $$/HP ration it really not worth it the Stock intake is great on the RX-8 but if you really want one the gains won't be much but the sound will be much different. I got the AEM on my RX-8 and it sounds awesome. Same thing goes for the Exhaust......

I understand the gains are not much, however i still went and had the HKS installed. I am very pleased with HKS's products.
