City Driving

Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone else has the problem of their car not running smoothly while driving their A/T in 4th in city driving? When my car is revving at about 1500 to 2000 rpm and in 4th it seems to be slightly hesitant and chug a bit but once I am past that point in the revs, it is fine.

I never notice this in 1st or 2nd as I usually get through those gears pretty quick.

I should add that from what I have read on here it seems like it could be the coils, although the car does not feel like it is going to stall it just chugs a bit, and that is where it has me stumped.

4th gear at 2Krpm or below is not going to give you any power. I drive around town in 3rd and only go to 4th if I'm going over 50mph on city roads or driving on the highway. the engine doesn't produce enough power at those low rpm's to move the car very quick in 4th gear. Downshift and you will be fine. When was the last time you replaced the ignition parts? How many miles do they currently have on them?

Ditto. I generally drive in manual mode and don't shift into 4th unless I'm cruising 50mph or over.

Should say that mine is a 4 speed automatic. Not sure what the good shift points are for a 6AT.

i've been having rough starts lately. (has to crank a bit more) im hitting the 25k mark in my 07AT. i've been letting it idle longer due to the problem.

never changed coils or plugs or anything. never had a problem before. ideas?

Yes I also have the 4spd. I know there wont be any power but I mean if I do shift it to 4th and it is at those low rpm's and I push the gas down it will chug a bit. I also found that by using manual mode in the city and keeping it revving at about 3k min it is fine.

I think it has been close to 30k miles since anything to do with the ignition has been changed now.

With that said I do drive it hard whenever I get the chance .
