Hey Guys, Just FYI we have a couple of A/T RX-8's running around with the Interceptor-X EMS on them. One customer SPRGRN is having good success with his N/A car and there is another car in south Florida with a turbo kit/At I have been giving support to. It can be done, if anyone is ready to feel the torque that comes with boost let me know! Scott

Yeah, there really isn't any reason the Greddy turbo kit can't be installed on the AT.
You would need to address the E-Manage wiring to take into account the missing P2s and go from there.
Other than those two wires, there are no differences in the PCM wiring loom that matter.
You can actually see the missing MT connector in pic #4 above.
Keep in mind that because of this, the AT does NOT have as much fuel available as the MT, so it cannot run as much boost on the OEM EFI.

20-40?!
thats nothing! That would only put use at the same level as a stock MT, correct? Or maybe a few horses over?
Or am i seeing this wrong?

If its any indication...the guy that boosted his A/T with the greddy kit here in the states was hitting 60 in the high 5 low 6 second range---which is close to a 2 second improvement. It would make it slightly faster than a stock M/T--with more torque though.

Besides, it's not all about peak horsepower. A turbo torque curve (particularly a fast spooling one like Greddy's) would completely change the car's acceleration capabilities. With a bit of tuning you could easily post up a better time/trap speed than a stock 6MT.

Even with only +40 peak HP, the difference in acceleration would be pretty big. There would be a sizeable gain across the entire rev range, starting at ~3500RPM. Even when I'm only boosting at 5psi, the increased torque is dramatic.

Okay...I've thought about it more, and wonder if you could get to 10 psi with better injectors. If you would need a couple other parts, what do you think they would be? What sort of numbers would you guys expect at 10psi? (Especially mazsport Scott and MazdaManiac)

10psi should give you similar numbers to what a 6port is making at 7200-7500rpm, could be less, could be more. The intake ports are a little different on the 2, and I don't know how much the 4 port can flow. Get crazy and do some intake porting, then go for big #'s . There's plenty of room on the intake side for some major work.

Hmmmm...
This all sounds very promising. It looks like the AT can be made fast
However, it sounds to me like it will be expensive to do porting, get the necessesary cooling, get better injectors, get the GReddy, and have all of that installed.
Would it be cheaper to try to get an MT instead and get the GReddy with that?
I know, I'm full of questions. But I'm trying to learn. And speaking of learning, I have some research to do on porting now.

Not for me. I still owe approx. $13k, have 62k miles, and the trade in value is in the toilet. I'd be looking at probably a -$12-13k deficit on a very cheap MT. Then $4-6k for the turbo installed and maybe tuned. I'm keeping this car for a long time, just to get my money's worth out of it. If I was going to throw an additional $15k+ at a faster car I'd buy something else altogether.
