How strong is the Auto? Any ideas?

Hi all,

If looking at increasing power output, I am quite concerned about the strength of the Auto. Even as standard, I'm not sure of its strength, as it does some strange things at times when shifting through the gears.

I have thought that if modifying engine output, then it might not be a bad idea to look at using a Series 6,7,8 (FD) Auto Transmission to do the job as it should be stronger.

Be interested to see if anyone has any thoughts on it.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to increase power much w/o FI. There are various owners around that have the Greddy kit on the AT but they don't frequent the site much. Hymee has a S/C planned for the AT and needs a donor car in Australia. Us AT owners get the short end of an already very short stick regarding performance mods for the 8.

The tranny.... who knows about it's longevity in the 8 but it's the one used in the FD. The weird shift tendencies is probably an ECU thing and not caused by the actual tranny.

Hi snizzle - thanks for replying.

Do you know for sure if it is an FD auto? I didn't think it was?

Might just have to contact Mr. Hymee!
