LSD for 4AT?

I noticed that some versions of the RX8 AT comes equipped with LSD...but unfortunately mine doesn't...so question is, where can I buy it? What is the part number/name/brand of the LSD? Is it even possible to install the LSD on my car now? Or does it only come factory-equipped? An LSD should be useful for a turbo-charged AT right? Since I'm losing traction at launch and during 1st to 2nd gear shift. Please enlighten me...

I would check with Paul in the Mazmart vendor forum.

Equiping a LSD should be easy enough for a experinced mechanic that is experinced with installing such things. I'm sure you could buy a Mazda LSD or upgrade if you will to a aftermarket one. I believe a few Japanese Rotary Shops offer them I'd suggest if your really interested check out J-On Demand or Japanparts online.

In that page, I found a 1.5way LSD, but I can't figure the following lines out:

**Need Output shaft (But it's discontinued)** Mechanical 1.5WAY L.S.D. Initial torque: position 1: 41.2Nm (4.2kg-m) Position 2: 62.8Nm (6.4kg-m)
Position 3: 86.3Nm (8.8kg-m) adjustable. USE GL-6 gearoil, Need Genuine Inner joint boots Set

anyone can help?

Limited-Slip Differential.

It basically allows for some limited difference in speed between the 2 drive wheels. Thereby reducing wheelspin under hard cornering (allowing the inside wheel to turn slower than the outside wheel). There are many types. Some work only under acceleration (1 way), some under both acceleration and decceleration (1.5 or 2 way). If you want more info than that there's tons out there.

That much is lost upon me. Though I'm sure someone fully knowledgeable about diff's and LSD's and so on could chime in or help you out. Though at a glance it seems its listing the spec's and what you'd need to use for the oil in your diff for this part to work correctly. Again if really serious about this have a mechanic friend check it out for you and they can tell you if its worthwhile for yourself.

Well, the "output shaft" question may be the "Tail shaft" meaning it has a unique flange at the front of the diff that wont allow the factory tail shaft to bolt up to it.

Seriously though, for street use. You dont want a 1.5 diff. They rob you of (some) power & & wear out your tyres faster than normal.

Advantages are they are better for the racing guys who require some form of "lock up" on the wheel with the weight on it.

Excuse my limited understanding but I think thats about it.

yes, they are basically the same with different center sections, see the attached PDF file

LSD and gears are interchangeable between the FD3 and SE3P

the MS output shafts are available, contact JapanParts and they can get them or so they told me not too long ago, the output shafts are the side shafts that connect to the axles, this LSD is adjustable for the clutch pack preload force, those are the force dimensions listed, this is how much force is required to cause the LSD clutch pack to slip

I'm replacing a low mileage factory LSD unit with a Kaaz aftermarket LSD for racing purposes.

I put the OE Tochigi Fuji limited slip unit in the FS forum if anyone is interested in an upgrade from their open diff

edit: nix that, just saw that the axle shaft assemblies are different between the 6 spd and base auto, so you'll likely need 6 spd axle assemblies to go with any LSD conversion. I actually have a pair of 6 spd axle assemblies I'd like to sell, but they are currently on loan to Charles Hill.

^Thanks TeamRx8 that is some useful info. In the coming months I'd love to do a LSD install on my Base model Rx8 and I already noticed the housing is way way different than a Gt model's (a a/t also). The size was very noticable when I seen 'em up in the air. When I do this I'll be making a few inquaires to alot of people about what is needed and the easiest route to do it.

TeamRX8,

If you get the LSD on the 4 speed AT from the factory, it is the same as the LSD on the six speed, correct? Just asking because i'm the one having Mazmart install the FEED gear i'm getting from JonDemand in a new housing and doing a core swap with them. Don't want to get the new "core" and find out it won't fit!

Thanks!
