Mods for AT

if your engine AND tranny breaks down on you, they WILL replace it under warranty, but they WILL replace the part that they take out
you can add money and they'll probably do it for ya, but we're talking 500-1000+

so for another 500 - 1000 bucks IF both my motor and tranny dies and IF it dies "under warranty" and IF i bitch at mazda long enough, i can get a 6sp AT and a new motor? joyyyyyyyyyy how about a 6sp MT? i feel like a little kid now ;-P

yea, hahaha I tried that once, when they replaced new tranny at 8k mile, I bitched at them for so long that their AT was unreliable, that it was a mistake for mazda to make it without knowing the impending doom, that their service suck, that I lost my faith in the transmission, blah blah, they said 1k and they'll change my car to an MT, I said "I actually like the AT tranny" and proceeded to drive the car home and bought a nitrous kit after that

Yeah i am a student - and i work full time - plus i have rent, a gf, and some 'needy' parents..
Not much of a stretch for some of you i know - but this past month took me for a loop...once i gather myself again i should be fine...hopefully.

^ oh, you said I have a 6spd, my bad, lol, i was like wtf? wtf?
no no flaming intended
john, care to let me try out your car? hahahah, nah I've driven MT8s before, they don't feel at all faster than mine, mine actually "feels" faster, but ofcourse, I lose by half a car's length, damn u!!!

6AT and 4AT are comonly used, and no problem dude, I haven't opened up a 4spd tranny yet, but I'm guessing the only thing different is probably the gear synchro and the gear themselves in the tranny, I highly doubt anything else changed.............

I did not see that conversation about the 4 speed /6 speed. Sorry to repeat

sall good man, ill try and see how much itwould cost toget me a 6sp AT even if itll b with the slower engine that i have now, might be nicer :-P either than or just be smart, pay this thing off, and get a new on in a couple of years. did sumon say kabura?

yea its got the same hp rating because mazda overated their 4 port, aside from that matter, 4 ports have 1 oil cooler, 6ports come with 2 oil cooler, I am thinking of adding another one, and 2 ATF cooler, hopefully get CRH's new radiator also, then my car would be cooling monsta
will a bigger custom made ATF work as good as 2 ATF cooler? no?

A mod that is missing on many lists is the Exhaust Manifold. Word is that its popular among various RX-8 owners in Japan.
A new exhaust and the exhaust manifold could make a significant difference. Both could also save weight, in addition to some HP gains. Obviously, so would getting rid of the CAT, but that is not legal.
However, there are many exhaust manifolds now. R-Magic, Re-Amemiya, Knights Sports, and some others have them out now. I can't say which is best. I do know the R-magic one claims to save weight and gain HP. But, some have a 3 pipe design and a newer type actually have 4 pipes. I think that is about the center pipe, where the new design separates the exhaust there too, but I don't know how much of a performance gain it gives in comparison to the other design.
Maybe the Rotary God needs to look into this.
Decent list:
Intake duct- CAI and/or Ram Air should give small performance gain. Odula intake duct, Racing Beat intake duct and box, Mazdaspeed CAI, etc....
Oil catch can and breather- oily vapor is getting sucked into your intake robbing you of some performance. Do a search to learn more about this if you don't know.
Water Pump- better at higher rev range and should give some HP. Cooler RX-8 equal better performing one...
HKS twin power ignition amplifier- better ignition system, should equal better performance.
New sparks and coils to go along with the above, but if you have some miles this alone may be useful to "reclaim" some HP.
Exhaust- I would recommend the Greddy Exhaust for weight, quiet sound, pipe size before muffler, some HP gain... I like my R-Magic exhaust though....
Exhaust Manifold- Don't know who has the better one yet. Should be some HP to be got from this.
Mazsport cooling fan mod- cooler RX-8 = better performing one. However, it might make your idle a bit rougher, since both fans are on.
Greddy Oil Pan- like a 3rd oil cooler. By the way, get the 2nd oil cooler for your AT if you don't have it already, especially if you live anywhere hot.
Redline Water Wetter- Most people should be running 70% distilled water and 30% anti-freeze at least based on their climate. Some people are running 50/50 antifreeze and are screwing themselves.. Adding Redline water wetter would help.
ATF cooler w/ Redline AT fluid- Cooler automatic transmission and better fluid = better performance. If you take off the rev/speed limit, you better do this mod.
ECU mods- Int-X, Japanese (R-Magic, Re-Ameimya, Knights Sports ECU flash), or other options may work. Everybody is waiting on the Cobb AccessPORT though... Remove rev/speed limit, turn fans on earlier, etc... ECU flash may see around 10HP or more gain.
Synthetic oil? Royal Purple, for instance, claims a HP increase.
The above should do a decent improvement in HP.
Obviously FI would bring the HP. I side on the supercharger because of the lowend boost issue for the AT and I like consistent boost through the rev range.

^ hmmm I didn't really say anything about the exhaust headers because for me at least, I plan to go FI definitly, so no need to get 1, unless I plan to do a copex and weld my own turbo on it
the oil catch can is something that I am going to install pretty soon just to see the difference
combo 8: the reason I plan to put 2 ATF coolers is because from what I can see under the car, there are a decent load of space where you can put 2 in, this all depends on CRH's radiator and the mounting of your intercooler if you have 1 though, I'll see how that goes
