There are so many different opinions about this. The old typhoon systems everyone liked ,now they don't. revi's are great but not very loud or bling. I all depends on what you like. I hate K&N only because thier service is horrible(but still have one cause I like the sound). Keep in mind no intake has yet to show any real gain. If you need help installing it I am sure we can get someone on the forum who is close by to help you out. I have meet some really great people on this forum that way.

I saw the magazine ad and was skeptical about the claimed 10 HP gain. I questioned K&N, and they sent me this link (please forgive me if you've already seen this):

http://www.kandn.com/dynocharts/69-6030-1TFK.pdf

The +10 HP is at 8500 RPM; increases appear to be much smaller throughout the rest of the rev range.

Interestingly, the charts show two dips in power around 6700 and 7700 RPM. I got my RX in July, the only complaint I have so far is the flat spots around those RPMs.

that is the the 3 stage intake shifting i dunno exactly how it works but most dyno's show the secondary injectors commming in than the intake stages switching

Does anyones vacuum hoses touch the alternator?
The two lower ones of mine do and I know that alternator gets pretty hot.
Think I should zip tie em away from the alternator or something?

Need Help!!!

I just installed the new K&N intake and it makes A LOT!! of noise under the hood, especially from 7 1/2 rpm and up. It's sounds good, but it's almost like I have a city block's attention when I want to open it up. Does anyone else feel this way about this intake?

Second question: Can you hear a loud hissing noise from idle with the hood down? This is my first mod ever and im kinda skeptical.

Don't worry. All intakes make noise. some more than others.

I personally think that this one makes a bit more noise than other K&N intakes that I've heard. I haven't heard any other intakes for the RX-8 but people are saying this new one is quieter than the old one. You do have the new one right? lol

That loud hissing is the just the intake sucking in air through the filter and is normal.

Ya the car sounds mean, but I think that the bark is bigger than the bite. I did reserch on this intake vs purchasing the revi intake that the new K&N fixed all the bugs from the old versian plus, a 10hp increase at 8500rpm. I must say, now that it is installed, I don't even feel better throttle response.

Here is my two cents if it is worth it to anyone: It looks great installed in the car. It sounds great exept for it being 20 - 30% louder than I would expect it to be. I still haven't felt any performance gains, but put it on yesterday so ill not draw too soon of a conclusion. I am a person to purchase things that are function driven. If all I wanted is the sound, I would have put in a cheap fart can.

Next mod stages for me are cat back and headers, but with those parts added to this K&N, ill be looking for trouble. Well see.

Does anyone with this intake have abnormal ambient temp readings on the dash? Since I've installed this, the ambient temp is higher than what it should be. I mean, it was reading 90 degrees last night and there was no way its 90 degrees out.
Also, when my engine gets hot, it gets sluggish and the intake makes a kind of gurgling noise. I never heard it before. Maybe because the stock intake is quiet, the K&N sure does a good job at amplifying the noise. Help anyone?

My K&N is quiet untill I put my foot down and then it sounds healthy. Not to loud at all. I have one screw in canister clip but canister is many inches away from clip now. I have a new hose on oil filler because old hose is at least two inches to short now. I rode home from work yesterday and it was 90%. I had sunroof open and window down as it was comfortable. It was probable one of our rare low humidity days though.

Damn u guys, now im gonna have to go get one. I want to try and install it myself, but ive never done anything more than putting oil in...o and my clear corners lol. Would I be better off getting it installed professionally?

O and btw, does anyone with an AT feel a difference? Is it worth it?

Install was simple. You just unbolt the stock one and bolt this one in. The only thing that took any effort was pulling the stock airbox out. Took a bit of force, but not too bad.

As for difference, I don't really feel any difference. I don't think any intake will really make a difference. It sounds hella nice though :D!
