New Trans

One morning I was sitting at the fast food drive thru, and heard a ticking sound,,
It was resounding off the wall of the establishment.
So as to determine what was making this sound I shifted into "N"
The sound went away,,,,so I shifted back into 1st in manual mode.
There it was again fast tick/clicking sound.
So I decide to try some other things ,,like shifting into "2nd",,,
The sound went away,,, hmmmm shifted back to first,,,, sound came back.
So the dealer said they might have to put a new Trans in it.
The trans also seems to slip shifting from 2nd to 3rd on some occassions.
Of course I can not get it to do it with the Mechanic in the car.
They will call Mazda on Monday and inquire as to problem.
I will keep all you Auto drivers up to date when I find out more,,,,
If any of you have this or heard this let us know about it ....

I too have heard this 'faint' ticking sound in first. Mine too goes away in second.

But I have not encountered any gear slipping or any other problems.

Do let us know what the outcome is.

Whenever I'm at a light, I always put my 8 in neutral...if I leave it in gear, there's an annoying rattle in the dash. The idle is a lot smoother in neutral

Haven't heard any clicking from the transmission. I do have a dead motor mount though, and the steering wheel shakes at idle (in gear), and makes a little noise. Having that addressed this week, I hope.

Got the car back from the dealer today.
They did line pressure tests on the trans and found it to be in normal range.
They installed two engine mounts. Right one had gone almost flat.
They also changed the trans mount.
So all this seemed to take care of the ticking in first gear.
So that is that for now.
We will see how the shifting goes in the future.

Same ticking sound right here.... it's the one that owners don't normally hear because they're usually sitting at the wheel. You gotta get out to hear it.
So it's the mount for the engine and trans, right? Good job!

I was in a drive through at Mickey D's
In manual mode fiirst gear,,shift it to 2nd and it goes away.
It helps if the door is open next to a wall.
Have to listen for it. But you will hear it if it is happening
They replaced both engine and trans mounts, seemed to have cured it.
